Trumpeter, arranger, and composer, Michael Sailors is a recent graduate of the prestigious Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. While at UNCG, Sailors worked as a full-time student, and played lead trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble, the flagship of the jazz program. He also played piano in UNCG’s Jazz Band. In 2004, he won second place at the National Trumpet Competition’s Trumpet Ensemble Division, and was one of 8 finalists in the Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition in 2005. Recently, Sailors has been asked to write several compositions and arrangements for the UNCG Jazz Ensemble. Blues for J.A.M., which was commissioned by the North American Saxophone Alliance, was recorded on the UNCG Jazz Ensemble’s CD “Live with Dewey Redman.” This CD was honored with the Dr. Herb Wong Blue Chip Award (Jazz Educator’s Journal) as one of the top ten college CD’s of 2004. A second piece, Collision Course is featured on the UNCG 2005 Jazz Ensemble compact disc release “Vision.” Sailors was a trumpet clinician for the North Carolina Honors High School Jazz Band in 2003 and 2005. While attending UNCG, Michael has had the opportunity to work with Ellis Marsalis, Roland Guerin, Jason Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, Branford Marsalis, Byron Stripling, Robin Eubanks, Dick Oatts, Ed Neumeister, Ben Monder, Jimmy Cobb, Reggie Workman, Mike Stern, Wallace Roney, and many others. Since his graduation in December 2005, Michael has appeared with the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, Orquesta Gardel, Chad Eby, Vincent Gardner, Sean Jones, Don Braden, Ron Westray, and Jim Ketch.

Hey man, you sound great!! I've heard a lot about you. We should definitely try to hook up and play in the near future. Hit me up if you're ever in GR!!! Take care, keep swinging...
Hey Mike - great playing. Did we meet when the Jazz Ambassadors played UNCG? And now you're up in my old stomping grounds in MI. Remember, there's no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! Good luck up there!
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sage thicket. "Vamanos, amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintcraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.
