   About Mike Bernier

I've been a musician all of my life. I've been fortunate to have studied with some of the greatest musicians in southern New England.

I am a full time private instructor and have been blessed with some of the most talented students in the area. Passing on the knowledge I have learned to the next generation is one of my life's top goals. I've often said that if I lost my ability to play, I'd be happy teaching one on one for the rest of my life..... but lets hope that doesn't happen because I LOVE to play.

I'm a musician on a mission. My life's goal, aside from teaching, is to help create a renewed interest in Jazz in and around southern New England. It is unfortunate that such a musician rich area is so devoid of the venues and public support/awareness to allow young developing musicians to flourish. I hope to change that.

One of the ways I'm working towards this goal is the Providence Cutting Sessions (www.provcuttingsessions.com). Please take a moment to explore that site/program.

The other way I hope to change that is through music performance and recording. I hope that people will take something from the music I make. But mostly, I hope my music makes people want to organize and make music on their own, after all, what is a jazz community without other communal members to share it with??

My musical life isn't all about jazz however. I'm deeply involved in a rock project known as Bored With Four. Its a piano quartet featuring the inspired writings of singer/songwriter Andrew Brown. After a year of fine tuning, we are currently involved in recording the band. Expect a full length album release sometime in the new year!!

I'm also in an R&B band with singer song writer Kim Trusty.

One of my favorite hobbies is building/designing hand made effects pedals, both of my design, and clones. Contact me if you are interested in learning more about my products.

Thanks for reading!

Hey mike whats up! I just Uploaded a demo song for the Cutting sessions on to the KC & The Albro band page, its probably still processing but check it out in a while and see if it passes the qualifications. I used chords for one of the Berklee book exercises, so it should be good chord wise. Its not great quality but it should be ok. If you want to try to learn it to see if it works it starts on Cmin7 then goes to G7, you can probably get it from there. See yah!

Hey Mike I tried the Red Llama today. Its phenomenal! Its the exact boost/distortion I was lookin' for. I'm going to play it a little more to get a feel for it, and let you know if I want one, but so far I'm really impressed by it.

Oh because I've been fooling around with my TS9DX trying to get it to sound just right as a solo boost, and I've come to the realization that I should have probably gotten 2 TS9's and used one as a base distortion and the other to get a solo boost, either that do what you did, are you using the OD-9 as the first thing and having the TS9 give it more gain?

Hey mike, I'm in the process of writing a Jazz/blues piece for the Prov. sessions, but I wrote in tuned a half step down, what do you want me to do with that, should I tune back up and just play it as Ab or play it as A. It really sounds better as Ab but if you think it will be easier to write down as A just let me know.
