Sounds Like
Mike St. Jude & The Valentines actually. Or Peter O'Toole reciting Holland Dosier Holland, Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers playing "Wild Honey". The Spiders From Mars copping Booker T & The MG's, A Beat Group full of hooks. Who knows? The Valentines dig everything. Kinks meets Guided by Voices Dylan meets Faces Galileo meets Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe Ferlinghetti meets William Shakespeare Bill meet Sally, Sally meet Bill, Hello Sally, Hi Bill.
A few words about us courtesy of Francis:
Mike St. Jude & The Valentines play a fantastic blend of pop music oftentimes energetic, other times pleading & soulful, careening between the rhythm & blues energy of the great beat groups of yore [though they're not a bunch of Yorists] or heading down an absurd path of heavy hooks and colorful shape shifting pop. It’s difficult to pigeonhole this exciting combo. Following the grand tradition of great rock and roll, pop, soul and dance party music from the past forty years, the Valentines treat each song as an homage to all influential groups they’ve known and loved since their ears could make sense of sound. Fans of the Valentines liken their sound to an amalgam of mid-period Kinks, Faces, Some Girls era Rolling Stones, the American psychedelic scene of the late 60’s married with a healthy dose of Bob Dylan’s knack for strange tale telling at his most electric period. All the while the sound the Valentines produce is thoroughly modern without being too conscious of trying to fit into any niche other than rock and roll. The Valentines prefer to let the music speak for itself, so what are you waiting for? Here’s To Your Black & Blue Heart! Thank you for listening.
