" IT'S MY SOUL" Mike Stockton / CD Review
"Mike Stockton has redefined contemporary blues without leaving blues purists in the dust. Mike's stunning original lyrics and music is vital and relative to you're day to day experience. This music hits you where you're heart lives. What separates this band from the rest? While Stockton has developed impressive songwriting skills he has given birth to a new sound within contemporary Texas blues. Take notice of the Stevie Ray Vaughn influence, yet realize that Stockton is anything but a copycat. This CD generates live, in-you're-face blues. I call it charisma, or presence if you will- something engineers often don't capture. Mike Stockton's CD "It's My Soul".. represents his exceptional work as a producer, bassist, band leader, songwriter, lyricist, and engineer. The music on this CD is nothing less than compelling"..........

"IT'S MY SOUL " Mike Stockton / CD Review
" Silky Smooth is what first came to mind as my ears tracked the almost familiar sounds of Mike Stockton's latest release "IT'S MY SOUL" . Track 8 "TRUST ME" is with out a doubt my personal favorite, with enough roots and style to satisfy the hungry soul of most any Blues maniac. Mike, along with his fine tuned array of blues professors, pulled no punches on this latest effort. If you want it, you can get it on this album. It's like a kitchen sink of Blues with everything from soulful vocals, drums that keep train time, and last but not least Mike's flawess bass recipe, which makes the gravy for this tasty Texas stew of Blues"..........

Texan Takes The Spotlight.....
"One of the positive outgrowths of the current blues movement is the wealth of sidemen taking long-deserved steps toward center stage. In the last few years, Texas has spawned a number of noteworthy solo careers by such personalities as Doyle Bramhall, Jimmy Vaughn and Darrell Nulish. A couple of years ago, another Texas sideman, Mike Stockton, put his own act together, drawing from experience as the bassist for performers such as Delbert McClinton, Katy Webster, Z Z Hill, Mason Ruffner, and Clarence "Bon Ton" Garlo. But the whole time Stockton was playing those gigs, he was also writing songs with an eye for the future. The transition from sideman to leader came easy. "It's really what I wanted to do," he said. "It's fun to write songs and see a crowds reaction to them. Songwriting's a real natural thing. It's not pure if it's not a natural feeling coming out of the moment. That's why my writing is done mostly late at night after a gig." As a result, his debut CD, "It's My Soul," sounds as fresh as those moments--an alchemy of red-eyed, after hours blues with splashes of soul, R&B and roadhouse rock. If you enjoy the famous people Stockton has performed with, you'll find the solid and swinging rhythms of his own music a pleasure. On "It's My Soul," it's Stockton's collaboration with vocalist Randy Ray Pope that means the most. A powerful, unaffected vocal presence, Pope makes a song strong. This is especially true on such numbers as "Waitin' Too Long" and "Enough is Enough." Stockton's new album, "Love Jones," will be released next month. It is produced by Steve Mendell, who has some impressive credits, having put his imprint on albums by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, and Stevie Wonder. How did Mendell affect Stockton's sound? One thing Steve wanted to do was ease off the horns. He made us beef up a little bit, so we play a little more busy," Stockton says. Stockton will perform at OFF BROADWAY / ST. LOUIS at 9:00 PM."..........
