About Mike Strickland & the Usual Unusual Clowns

Mike Strickland & the Usual Unusual Clowns is a Memphis area band featuring the guitar playing of Mike Strickland, Being backed by his ever changing duo of "Clowns". We play then 600 cover songs and 45 originals. There is surely something to please everyone in our repertoire.

Mike Strickland, 53- has been a staple in Memphis for 30 years, he has played for such big name Memphis bands as "Tight Fit" & "Lonely Street Duo". He has colaberated with so many people (see influences and people we've played with) and is currently working with Wally Ford and Tommy Hoehn. He plays Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Harmonica, Keyboards, Tambourine, and Shaker Eggs. He plays others but those are the ones he plays most often. He teaches all of those to his large array of students.

J.T. Schlichter, 16- is also a Memphis area musician who has been on the scene for 3 years now. He started playing the Bassoon in a concert band in the 7th grade. He eventually changed to guitar and hooked up with Mike Strickland in the 8th grade. Mike started teaching J.T. to play various instruments. J.T. is currently finishing High School and learning multiple instruments. The instruments he has been known to play include Guitar, Bass Guitar, Tambourine, Shaker Eggs, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Trombone, and several others.

These two have been playing together for two years. It was just luck that they two ran into each other at Mike Strickland's usual Saturday night gig. J.T. was a techie (someone who does all the behind the scenes work with the equipment). He began working for Mike. Mike eventually asked to teach J.T. to play the guitar. They began playing together. Together, they have played in such places as two different Los Pilares Restaurants, El Puerto, Central BBQ, and The Pig on Beale Street.
