The band was initially created as a favour to a friend on his wedding day. The band originally formed as the ‘Wedding Band’ outfit. This was a one off and went very well and the lads had a great time doing it. After the wedding and half a year later, Mike (Mike Watts) had the idea of taking the band to the next level and taking the guys on the road as a Big Band to see how far we could go. The ‘Mike Watts Band’ was born.
The band had been created for the sole purpose of doing bigger functions like Weddings and Corporate/Business do’s. This worked well for the band, with the odd Pub thrown in for good fun. Continuing this way for over a year and a half the band becoming a big hit in the market which we were aiming for, Mike became a full time Music and Drama teacher in a Catholic high School in Bedlington. Needless to say, organising the fulltime Big Band was a bit of a challenge so the ‘Mike Watts Band’ had there very large farewell gig in Late 2007 at Battlesteads Hotel, The ‘Mike Watts Band’ was no more.
Half a year later, Mike got itchy feet and couldn’t help but want to start up something new. Mike decided that the last outfit would still be a handful but by using two of its original members, create a four piece band which were as flexible and divers as he wanted. Finding Jason Osborn to complete the four piece (with Liam Fender & Matthew Browell) Mike saw first hand the obvious flair and energy that came out of this new band. Finding the three semi-pro musicians to complete a young, enthusiastic, dynamic & reliably tight sounding outfit this was an easy decision for Mike to get back on the road with these guys. The ‘Mike Watts & the Spoots’ were created.
The band have an array of new and old material to hand depending on the audience. They are the kind of band who can please all audiences and have the energy to give a good night to all pub goers of all ages. Unlike the last outfit, ‘Mike Watts & the Spoots’ are a generated pub band who regularly play Weddings and Business do’s. Although the band do not advertise themselves as a ‘Wedding’ band, the band is fit for all functions and pride themselves on fitting in for any occasion.
