About me: Hello Death Cab For Cutie fans! I guess many of you are coming here because of the Pitchfork link about some dude who is reading the credits for the incredible new Death Cab release. That's me. You can hear other voice work that I do by following this link. If you don't care, just read on until you get bored. http://www.myspace.com/mikewestvoicework
My name on the radio was Mike West. You can call me Vinnie now. I grew up in north Seattle and went to Nathan Hale High, home of C-89. That’s where I got my start in radio. I am now a supervisor at the radio station and mentor the young broadcasters. It's very rewarding. The day after high school I went to work at KDUX in Ocean Shores. I came home and got a job at KYAC in Seattle, an R&B station. Just before my 20th birthday I went to work at KISW and before we knew it we were the number one station in town. John Langan and I took a job in Los Angeles at KMET. That didn’t work too well. We split up and I went back to KISW with my buddy Gary Crow. After a few years back at The Rock, we defected and started our own station, KXRX. When that place flamed out I got the call to work for 1037 The Mountain and spent 12 years at the joint. My wife is Tina. We’ve been married for 26 years. That’s a new record for radio announcers. We have known each other since junior high so something must be working. We have a couple of kids who really aren’t kids anymore. Daughter Erika graduated from Western in Bellingham. She was a radio announcer at KUGS in Bellingham and was music director. She now works for Barsuk Records. Nice gig.
My son Michael got his recording engineering degree in Liverpool at LIPA, Paul McCartney’s school. He’s a fine musician. You can find his info at http://www.myspace.com/michaelbenjaminlerner.I took up the guitar later in life to learn how people do that and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love cars, even though I don’t love what they do to the world. I test two new cars a week. I haven’t driven my car in years. I love technology….when it works. We also love our house and our cat Abby and our neighbors. They are true friends. I am now retired...sort of. I do work for people like Microsoft and QFC. I also write car articles for Reporter Newspapers in western Washington. Glad to meet you.
Who I'd like to meet: You, and you, I'm not quite sure about you, but you, for sure.
Please note the new RecordScout.com website is live! We have so many new features all aimed at unsigned, and signed bands looking for valuable exposure. Previously it was just a directory for unsigned bands but our new launch includes MP3 and Video exposure as well as photo galleries. Encourage your fans to sign up and vote for you. When we go live with our national radio coverage the charts will be announced weekly! Unfortunately previous bands and artists will have to set up an new account from scratch but it is worth it!
vinnie! So I was driving somewhere a few sundays ago, listening to kzok. And what do I hear, but you! It definitely made my week. It was nice to hear your voice on the air again, friend.
good to see you last night. i was catching up with tommy and looked for you two after michael's set, but i think you took off. his band brought a lot of energy. i was telling michael that the last time i saw a drummer front and center was at the OK hotel, when i saw a band called "hater." boy were those guys loud!
Good morning! Thanks dad! It was good to see you and mom and mona and jody there. Representing the North side, fo sho.
Thanks for letting me have the guitar. I know I didn't use it, but it was nice to know I had the option of using such a lovely piece of instrument. It's such a nice guitar.
