Bio
.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Mike Whitty, also recognized around the Nashville music industry as "Whitty", started his music career in Norwell, Mass as a bass player/songwriter with Country-Americana group The Thompson Brothers Band. In 1991, the group relocated to Nashville, TN to attend Belmont University for a shot at the Country Music Industry and was signed by RCA. The Thompson Brothers put out three records and toured the US and Europe through the ‘90’s while keeping their base in Nashville. After a solo sojourn in NYC’s East Village in 2003 to write music, hone his chops with different bands and run sound for underground music venues, Mike returned to Nashville and began putting his life experiences into songs. With his roots closely tied to the country music industry, Mike’s edgy and gritty tone is reminiscent of artists such as Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, yet his songwriting carries a light-hearted look at life with a John Prine storytelling vibe. Whitty can be found around the Nashville music scene as an accomplished bass player in popular local bands, a skilled sound master in venues such as The Basement, or strumming his guitar in his favorite local dives. Mike doesn’t just sing his songs: he performs them. Most Sundays, Mike hosts MIke Whitty & Friends at Nashville’s legendary Brown’s Diner. C’mon over. He’d love to see you. Mike presently tours as a bass player throughout the Southeast and Midwest for Cogent Records recording artist Chris Scruggs. -
