Thats the thing about music I guess.
You just write what feels right and let the songs speak for themselves.
Mike Willis is an artist and songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. Originally from Atlanta, his roots are an integral part of his existence, they naturally carry over into every aspect of his music. His lyrics reveal his emotional passage through life, in a way every listener can relate to. His powerful voice will silence a room, drawing his audience deep into his soul. He is just as intensely captivating when performing one of his up tempo Pop-country songs with melodies that are irresistibly catchy, you’ll find yourself singing along.
As a performer, he and his band have played in venues across the country developing a loyal local/regional following. Opening for and/or sharing the stage with a range of acts including Sugarland, Darryl Worley, John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Danielle Peck, Ronnie Milsap and many more.
The past two years, since moving to Nashville, Mike Willis has accomplished his short term goals. He continues his ambition with a streamlined focus on his dream. He will continue to do what he loves, fulfilling his life’s calling and staying true to himself along the way. Last year Mike enjoyed playing at the Key West Songwriters festival and the TIN PAN SOUTH Songwriters Festival in Nashville. In November 2008 he was honored to receive the Leon Brettler ASCAP foundation award for being outstanding songwriter-performer, as well as winning the country category of the International Songwriters Competition with his autobiographical ballad “Made For You”. Mike also realized his aspiration of performing on the legendary Ryman stage, opening for Ronnie Milsap.
As a recording artist, he has co-produced 3 independent releases working with producers including Jay Bennett (Wilco, Blues Traveler, and more), Aaron Kamin (The Calling), and ZK Productions (Cartel and more). A fourth release is due out in November 2009. "I'm excited to share this new music with my current and future listeners! This recording will ABSOLUTELY be the 'most sincere' of any that I've made to date," says Mike.
Mike Willis has a wife, Emily, a five year old son, Ben, and a baby girl, Grace.
