Spinal Tap, Stephen Lynch, Tenacious D, Todd Yohn, Tim Wilson, Heywood Banks, Rodney Carrington, Tim Cavanaugh, Todd Snider, They Might Be Giants, 80's hair metal bands, Billy Connolly, KISS, George Carlin, Roger Miller, Ron Jeremy's fluffer, Pink Floyd, Huey Lewis' backup band before 'the News', Saturday morning cartoons from the 80's, Billy and the Boingers, Dr. Demento, Weird Al's funny stuff (not the un-funny stuff), and the background music from all of the Atari 2600 video games.
Sounds Like
Spinal Tap (unplugged), Stephen Lynch, Tenacious D, Todd Yohn, Heywood Banks, Rodney Carrington, Tim Wilson, Tim Cavanaugh, Todd Snider, a full sheet of LSD, a healthy dose of perversion mixed with righteous indignation, and every Saturday morning cartoon theme song you can remember tossed in a blender.
You know... Pop-infected alterna-folk comedy.
With a strong stage presence, infectiously hilarious original songs, and a wit as fast as his mouth, Mikey is an unforgettable performer, and definitely not your typical “guitar comic”. He’s the MTV Unplugged of guitar comics, interweaving his stand-up and songs, one leading into the other, grabbing the audience by surprise with an incredibly high-energy performance that keeps
the audience laughing and singing along, then leaves them screaming for more. No subject or musical style is off limits. From country to rock, pop to rap, religion to relationships, politics to childhood insecurities, Mikey is unabashed, unafraid, and unquestionably funny.
Born in Kentucky and dragged throughout the south before settling in Indiana to be raised in a trailer, Mikey Mason has a diverse background to draw material from. With his abnormal childhood, five siblings, two marriages, children, multiple pets, college experiences, and many career changes (ranging from fast food, to working at a funeral home, to teaching middle
school, high school and college, as well as working with at-risk youth,) he’s got a lot to talk—and sing—about. He’s spent the last two decades transitioning from performing in bands and sketch and improv comedy troupes to performing standup comedy, and the benefit is all yours.
Mikey has performed with Todd Yohn, John Fox, Rob Haney, Lord Carrett, Dwight York, Steve Iott, Steve Caminiti, Lester Bibbs, Jody Kerns and Vic Dunlop (among many others.) He has made multiple regional television and radio appearances, and recorded two comedy cd's (Past Tense and He Think's He's Funny.) In addition to being a regular at Comedy Zones nationwide, Mikey has performed at the Stardome, the House of Blues, Snickerz Comedy Bar, Jokerz Comedy Club (Milwaukee,) and Mason City Limits, as well as many bars, clubs, fraternities, around the country.
