Miki was born July 29, 1991 in Denver, Colorado to immigrated parents from Tokyo, Japan. Living there for 4 years, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii soon after. Her mother had been a professional high fashion model in Tokyo as well as Denver for many years before Miki was born, so it wasn’t long before she grew interested in lights and the spotlight. Wanting in on the action she asked her mother if she could give it a try. Soon she began modeling and doing commercials at the age of 5 and singing at the age of 6. Unlike most, Miki was actually quite a shy girl and had a hard time pushing herself to grow out of her shell, but that would soon change.
Due to her father's new job, her family relocated to Los Angeles in 2000. She started training intensely vocally and soon began to train in dance as well. She joined a performing group, which allowed her hone her skills by performing in many public places such as Six Flags and break from her shyness. She was then discovered by a dance company that took her to Japan to do a tour with them, dancing and singing solo performances. This allowed to her to grow as a performer even more. Becoming serious about dance, Miki trained hard and was signed to the famous dance agency “Bloc” in 2003, home to some of the top dancers/choreographers around. She began booking jobs for various commercials as well as for a back up dancer for artists including Lil’ Romeo.
In 2004, she landed a role in the hit Nickelodeon TV show, Zoey101, as the reoccurring role of Vicky. In 2005, she booked her first feature film as one of the family members in the romantic comedy "Yours, Mine and Ours" starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo. She played Naoko North, the filmmaker of the North family, who used her camera to document the ups and downs of the large brood. The experience of working on a such a large scale production with such an amazing cast and crew gave Miki an even deeper passion for acting. Shortly after, she was given the opportunity to work with CrownSoul Entertainment, as Madison in the short film "Three the Hard Way." Which got some recognition in the Black Film Festival as well as the Boston Film Festival.
Miki was given a great opportunity when she became a signed artist with Walt Disney Records with the group “T-Squad” (from '05-'early '08) having an album released on April 3rd 2007 and toured with the Jonas Brothers, Cheetah Girls, Everlife, Miley Cyrus, B5, and many many more. In the summer of ’07 they headlined a “conservation” tour in local zoos and parks around the nation. Having been able to tour and perform in front of thousands allowed Miki to grow and develop her skills as a strong live performer as well as deepen her love with connecting with audience members. “Being on stage is like home to me,” says Miki “I get such a rush, it’s an indescribable feeling singing to an audience, It makes me so happy because they like me and accept me for who I am.”
Growing older and wanting to pursue her own solo career Miki is no longer apart of the group. She has recently been seen as a guest star on "Lincoln Heights" and the highly anticipated Steven Speilberg/ Diablo Cody project "United States Of Tara" on Showtime as well as a small quirky role in the upcoming Judd Apatow film (releasing late July '09) "Funny People" with Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Jonah Hill and many others, playing an actress on Mark (Jason Schwartzman)'s sitcom show.
Currently Miki has been making steady progress with working hard in the studio writing and recording to create her on unique sound. She is currently working on her solo career for both the U.S. and Japan. Writing and composing many of her own songs Miki has become a strong writer and hopes one day to write for other artist as well. “Writing allows you to just pour out everything your feeling, hate, love, sadness. People connect with those emotions and feel so connected with you because they see that they aren’t the only ones going through it.” says Miki. Full blooded Japanese, she hopes to break open the door for other successful Asian artist in Hollywood and be the first Japanese-American pop star and serious actress.
This quadruple-threat has another feature up her sleeves and its a compassionate heart. Miki has always had a passion for helping those less fortunate, domestically and internationally. “I feel that I was born into this life to help others. Of course I love singing, acting and dancing but through those I feel like thats how I’ll be able to touch people and somehow become an example in helping others. Most recently Miki became a volunteer for the “Tap Project” a 2 year old project under UNICEF and one of UNICEF’s largest projects in over 50 years. With over 900Million people lacking access to clean water and 4,200 children dying every day from water borne diseases, the goal is to decrease that number to zero and raise awareness that just $1 could provide for 40 children of water in a single day.
Joining this cause, she was able to produce/ co-direct the 1st benefit concert for the Tap Project entitled “Tap With A Beat.” Many youth celebrities performed, presented, attended including Orlando Bloom (who gave a speech on his experience in Nepal and as a UNICEF ambassador), Quincy “iQ” Brown, Kim Porter, Frequency 5, Boxchuttuz from America’s Best Dance Crew, Matt Prokop, Alyson Stoner, Kay Panabaker, and many many others. Through this amazing concert they were able to raise more than $6,000 which provides for 240,000 people of clean water.
Miki plans to take over the world by a storm with her hit songs, strong acting, fierce performances, and most importantly with a grounded head and compassionate heart.
