Mikko Perkola studied music at the Päijät-Häme conservatory, at the Sibelius-Academy and at the Royal Conservatory in Haag. His teachers were Arvo Haasma, Markku Luolajan-Mikkola and Wieland Kuijken.
Perkola has given concerts and recorded chamber music in Europe together with e.g. the Norwegian baroque orchestra, the Icelandic chamber orchestra, Concerto Palatino, Helsinki baroque orchestra, Battalia, Retrover, Ensemble Severin, Wieland Kuijken, Laurence Dreyfus, Topi Lehtipuu, Hans-Ola Ericsson, Anna Lindal and Markku Luolajan-Mikkola. In October 2006 he’s recording Bach gamba sonatas (Naxos) with harpsichordist Aapo Häkkinen. In August 2005 Perkola visited the Gramophone-awarded viol quartet Phantasm, led by Laurence Dreyfus on their album with John Jenkins Consorts in Six Parts (AVIE), followed by five part recording in August 2006. Perkola has also made many radio recordings for YLE (the Finnish Radio Company).
Mikko Perkola is both a singer and composer in the Finnish group Tekijä Tuntematon, which interprets poems. His wide range in music making includes collaborations with artists from different fields, from early music to multimedia and solo performances with amplified viol. Perkola teaches gamba and old music in Lahti.
