Influences
Grew up listening to all styles and types of latin music...from Trio Los Panchos to Pedro Infante and Alberto Vasquez. By 7th grade I was listening to SANTANA, Journey, Pink Floyd & Foghat. Saw my first musical, the King and I with Yul Brynner and my first opera - CARMEN. By sophmore year attended my first concert, Earth Wind and Fire and Commodores, Confunction, etc etc. I also fell in love with country music and sang pop in our chorus program. Studied for 9 years with my voice coach, Angie Biggio and worked on everything from Big Band, Musical Theatre to Gerschwin and Porter... I love most all music, especially music with insightful & meaningful lyrics and melodies and harmonies!

“You’re a diamond, girl...well on your way to national recognition!" Pete Escovedo
Carmen Milagro brings you some original tunes and Spanish covers of Latin music quite different than what we normally hear today in the market. This show takes you on a journey flavored with music from Columbia, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru. You are pleasantly surprised by the songs at every turn. They are effectively & intuitively infused with a little jazzy feel, some rock rhythms, a hint of r&b, a dose of salsa and a dash of Spanish boleros with flamenco stomp...Milagro makes you want to not only dance and sing but colors your world with a million shades of love." – Pene (Pipa) Cruz
"Your voice has an essence of Natalie Merchant's intimate and almost conversational style to it, peppered with Latin sounds and Spanish lyrics- totally hot!!” Leah Mahlberg ~ Designs 4 Life Entertainment
…“there’s shades of Latin rock, a touch of salsa, only a touch lovingly blended with a taste of the old boleros and some timeless classics done with the Milagro twist, I am surprised and delighted at every turn. Each song is like a beautifully wrapped gift” – Eva Santiago
Not Bad for a Gringa (currently number 1 on Womensradio.com at http://www.womensradio.com/content/templates/?a=1906&z=99) was ordained because the majority of this album, was produced in San Salvador, Central America. When visiting, Carmen Milagro, a San Francisco native, is the gringa in the family. The album is a journey, not only a recollection of songs from her childhood but a foray into her future as an internationally recognized artist. Amelia (an original song based on the life story of a neglected & forgotten little girl known to Milagro) is track ..5 and was produced by Myron Dove formerly of Santana. In Not Bad for a Gringa Milagro has combined a variety of influences, original as well as cover songs in a blend of various shades of Latin music to form an eclectic, versatile taste of the old boleros of yesteryear, some modern beats, a slight twist on the Latin pop grooves and a dash of good old-fashioned rock but with a Spanish flair. Taking some very personal experiences of past performances with Dulce Maria (Cuba) and Acajutla (El Salvador), Milagro has included Un Viejo Amor. This song, she recently discovered was sung over 70 years ago by her grandmother, when her grandfather died and thus decided to keep a very traditional vibe. Volvera el Amor, is included because she remembers the lyrics from when she was 3 years old. Her version, however, has more of a modern vibe. Some songs are Cuban (Como Fue) and Mexican (Quiereme by Alejandro Fernandez). Some are standards, the equivalent of our Gershwin or Porter songs of that same era. Volveras (also available as a music video) pays homage to fellow female artist Columbian-born, songwriter, Marie Claire Dubaldo. As for the originals, one should not overlook, Absolution, written with the intent to give voice to victims of sexual exploitation. I Have a Secret has everybody wondering what that secret might be!
