When Mila Mason came to Nashville, she had a dream. But it was not her vision to become a country music star, take center stage, and stand in the spotlight. Mila Mason came to town because she wanted to be a songwriter. She wanted to create her own mark as a song crafter. She wanted to design her own pattern and her own trend in Country Music.
Mila was raised in Dawson Springs, Kentucky by single mom, Diane Mason. Mila will tell you...."My musical aspirations are absolutely inherited." Both her grandmother and mother were singers. Diane Mason, had a thriving career as a performer touring in Europe and having a regular show in Las Vegas opening for the Commodores. Today, Mila has a complimentary balance between her heritage and this new generation of country music that she calls her own.
Discovered through a friend of a friend of a friend in 1993 by renowned producer, Blake Mevin (of George Strait, Keith Whitley fame), Mevis became an immediate fan. He took her into the studio, recorded some sides and delivered them to Atlantic Records President, Bryan Switzer. Mila signed with Atlantic in 1996.
Mila's debut album, "That's Enough of That" was released in 1997 and featured the title cut of the same name as well as her signature song, "Dark Horse" . Her sophomore project, "The Strong One" was released in 1998 and featured the memorable single "Closer to Heaven".
After the release of her second album, Mila was driven to concentrate on her songwriting. She departed Atlantic with the determination to accomplish just that. The decision was climateric in her career but it was a risk she new she to take for herself, for Mila Mason--the artist.
Since her decision to take personal time off to define her talents as a song crafter and devote her concentration on her next project, she has re-married, had her third child, and signed with a new label.
Mila signed with indie label Twinbeat Records (a divison of Brumley Music Group) in Mary 2003. Her debut album "Stained Glass Window" is a pivotal record in her career. It features ten songs, written and co-written by Mila. Her artistry as a songwriter and talent as a stylist is clearly evident throughout the entire album. Mila collaborated efforts to co-produce the project with Michael D. Clute, Mike Porter, and Mike Wrucke.
"Stained Glass Window" is a reflection of Mila's soulful vocals and realistic style. It is a crystal clear demonstration of her exquisite vocal characteristic with equal parts of rough and smooth. Mila has a gift for relaying the heart of a song. She's an honest artist in terms of what she sings. She's an artistic songwriter who can wrap lyrics around a song to tell a story that is tangible. She has a unique way of reeling in her audience. She's doesn't just deliver the music, she brings her audience into her music. With every performance, with every song, it's personal.
"Stained Glass Window" -- it's personal. She's made her mark.
