International Year Of The Reef
Lots of fun stuff happening right now. As we said earlier, this is the International Year Of The Reef and we will be doing all sorts of things to celebrate this. We will keep everyone informed as things are finalized. Also, in May of this year the Vandenberg, a World War II troop transport ship, will be sunk off Key West to become a 522-foot artificial reef. We were honored to have been asked to write a song about this wonderful ship, her history and the treasure she is about to become. Go to www.bigshipwrecks.com to check out our new tune
Our Summer Tours
House Parties are Back!!
Our summer tour is filling up fast and we are probably going to be in your area. We will keep everyone updated through our websites and newsletters. We also are going to offer our “House Parties” again this year. We started doing this last year and it was such a success. Basically you can have the Mile Marker 24 Band perform in your back yard, street, or wherever. Just invite a bunch of your friends over and have a party Keys style. We’ll do the rest. If you’re interested contact our planning folks at www.milemarker24.com or www.myspace.com/milemarker24 and they will give you an outline of how house parties work, and help you with everything.
Our CD’s are Top Sellers
CD Baby Trop-Rock Genre
Another exciting thing happened. We were notified that we have the top three best selling CDs at CD Baby under their Trop Rock genre. Number one is "Livin’ .. West Time", number two "Meet Me In The Keys" and "Blame It On The Margaritas" holds the third spot. We are very honored and thank everyone for supporting us.
If you had a crystal ball and could do anything you wanted to do for the summer, what would you chose? If you decided to load up a tour bus with the dogs, throw in some wonderful friends and travel across the country playing music for even more great friends, you would have made a great choice.
We are traveling in the bus down I-69 and just crossed into Indiana from Michigan. Last week we performed our second time at Bally’s in Atlantic City and once again, we were blown away by all the familiar faces there. Thank you all for making it such a great party. Can’t wait to return in August.
Next we were then treated to two totally different and absolutely beautiful sides of Michigan. Our first stop was in the town of Whitehall on Lake Michigan. I have some great memories of Whitehall from my sailing days on Lake Michigan. I lived near Chicago at the time and just about every weekend found my Pearson sailboat and I heading to the shores of Michigan. For some reason the Michigan side of the lake is much more interesting. Great harbors, long white sand beaches and the rolling sand dunes with sea grass and trails make you think you must be somewhere other than the Midwest.
When we arrived at the private party we were greeted with friends and neighbors from the Keys. Wayne points to a stage they have erected about 300 feet through the sand dunes at water’s edge. It looked like something from a movie. What a great evening it was as the smell of burning wood from campfires filled the air. Thanks for letting us be a part of such a great event and fundraiser.
Yesterday we had the delight of experiencing another beautiful part of Michigan. This time not on the lake but in the rolling farmland just outside of Kalamazoo. We performed between the farmhouse and the barn, which housed more food than anyone could ever consume. We did give it our best, however. Thanks to Joe, Di, Pat and Deb for your hospitably and friendship.
Back Home (In Indiana)
Our next stop is Marion, Indiana tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15th at The Mill. What a blast we had there during our last show. If you are in the area please come out and party with us. The show starts at 6PM.
After that we head west to IOWA to party with the Coconut Castaways.
Friday, July 18th we are at the Down Under Tent Party in (Clive) Des Moines. The parking lot will be transformed into a tropical island under a huge tent. We take the stage at 7:00 PM.
Then onto PM Park at Clear Lake on Saturday July 19th. This beautiful park will be the setting of music under the stars. The show starts at 6:30 PM.
Sunday, July 20th we are at Barefoot Bar at Parks Marina in Okoboji, Iowa. We perform at 3:00 PM. Talk about a cool place, listen to this…. they have REAL palm trees that are planted each spring and stored in a green house in the winter. Their tiki hut is made from real Florida palm fronds, which were transported by refrigerated truck to build this unique spot. If you are in the area of any of these great places we hope you can join us. We would love to see you and make you a margarita from our old Johnson outboard motor.
Meeting of the Minds October 30 - November 2, 2008
Just a quick note about an upcoming performance this fall in Key West. We will be performing again this year for Meeting of the Minds. This is a great annual international convention of Parrotheads (Jimmy Buffett Fan Club). This group of people “Party with a Purpose” and raise much needed funds for some major Charities.
If you have never attended a Meeting of the Minds you may not realize how much fun it is! There are about 15-20 great trop-rock bands that perform over the 5 days, mainly at the Casa Marina Hotel. There are a few ‘outside’ venues, but each day the music starts in the morning and runs almost constantly until near midnight or later. If you like trop-rock music, and you must if you are on this newsletter list! – you should make arrangements to attend this party!
If you are not registered for Meeting of the Minds, you will not be able to hear us play – we will be playing at the Casa Marina and only registered attendees will be allowed in. So please register!
