Bio
Miles Arntzen is a young musician from New York City. He first picked up the drumsticks at age 6 and he hasn’t looked back since. While studying in NYU’s Jazz Performance program, he has made a name for himself in the New York scene as a creative force to be reckoned with. Miles performs weekly in countless venues in New York, and Miles has also performed in California, Chicago, Philadelphia, Portland, Austin, Vancouver and Seattle, all before turning 20. He toured in summer 2010 with Antibalas, the premier modern afrobeat band and the backing band in the hit musical, Fela!. His 11-piece funk/afrobeat band EMEFE just released their full-length debut CD, entitled Music Frees All (available at emefemusic.com). His major influences and teachers include his dad Leif Arntzen, Stuart Bogie of Antibalas, Billy Martin of Medeski Martin and Wood, producer Scott Harding, drummer Tony Moreno, saxophonist Lenny Pickett, and Dave Anania of Blue Man Group. In addition to leading EMEFE, Miles is also the drummer in saxophonist Stuart Bogie’s forward thinking band Superhuman Happiness, which has singles and CDs available at superhumanhappiness.com, and in the indie rock trio Milo and The Fuzz, whose EP Cornelia Street is up for free download at miloandthefuzz.com. Miles is the drummer/singer in his family’s Dixieland/Folk jazz band called 3 Generations, which organizes and performs at annual fundraisers at Highline Ballroom and Symphony Space in Manhattan. Miles can also be found playing colleges and venues with artists such as the Lenny Pickett Block Party Band, classic rock trio Burnham Brothers, singer/songwriter Jake Snider, singer/songstress Sarah Solovay, and Antibalas lead singer Amayo’s Afrobeat Fu-Arkestra. Miles is a proud New Yorker and is probably going to love music forever. Recordings by and more info about all of Miles’ projects are available online through www.facebook.com/milesarntzen, and he can be contacted at milesarntzen@gmail.com. See the links in the Friends list for the bands and music Miles is involved with. The recordings on this website are written and recorded by Miles Arntzen. .. -
