Miles of Clear June began in a cabin somewhere between Murfreesboro and Manchester, Tennessee during a snowstorm in the winter of 2004. Brent Baltzer sang and played guitar, Estelle Collins played the fiddle and sang back up, and Brian G. Pitts played the bass and drove through ten inches of snow to get Baltzer and himself to Estelles cabin.
By that spring they had added David Adkins on the drums and were beginning to play around Murfreesboro and Nashville. They had worked up a set of ten or eleven of Baltzers originals and recorded three of them to send out as a demo, but still needed keys to complete the sound they were looking for.
In the summer of 2004 Adkins recruited Fluid Ounces front man Seth Timbs, recently returned from Los Angeles, to sit in with the band. The band, now a five piece, began playing more frequently in places like the Boro, Wall Street, Liquid Smoke, the End, the Radio Café, and the Five Spot.
Estelle left the band later that fall to return to North Carolina. Seth Timbs left the band in the fall of '05, whose position at the keyboard was filled by Jennifer Stone.
Miles of Clear June is on indefinite hiatus, as Baltzer now lives in Portland doing God knows what. Many ex members appear to have had kids in an eerily clustered time period. Love was in the air in Tennessee, I suppose. Jennifer, however, has not had any kids yet (that she knows of), opting instead to get a huge tattoo. Baltzer thought he had a kid but the DNA test said otherwise.
