Born Lucious N. Harris, Jr. on July 29,1969 in Fort Hood, Texas. and raised as an Army dependent, he lived in several different states and outside the US twice. He is a graduate of Richland Northeast High School in Columbia, SC as well as a graduate of Stratford College of Art in Hilton Head Island, S.C. with a degree in Photography. He also attended the Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Ga. majoring in Electronic Arts. In 1991 he became a member of the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church in Atlanta, Ga. There he received his African name Jelani Omowale Onyemachi (mighty son returns home who knows Gods will) and soon after he became a member of the Holy Order of the Maccabees (security force). Jelani is a former Police Officer of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and a former Deputy Sheriff with the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. in Columbia, S.C.
Jelani began DJing and producing Hip Hop music in 1984. In 1989 he moved to Atlanta, GA a year later he signed a production deal with an Atlanta based independent record label called Mass Appeal Records. In 1992 he established Militant Music Productions with creation of his Hip Hop / Spoken word group “Lasana” meaning “Poets of the People”. In 1998 Jelani and his family moved from Atlanta, Ga. back to Columbia, SC. Shortly after he became the in house DJ for a popular night club in Columbia and produced various unsigned artist. In May 2006, Jelani established his independent record label Militant Muzic Group, LLC. In July of the same year Jelani partnered up with Arieas “AJ” Lee & Aaron Johnson and opened Quantum Beats Recording Studio.
