'ALBUM OF THE WEEK'
'This band is something special. I loved God With an Ipod.'
BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens
'Milk Kan you rule. Somewhere between Bob Dylan and Mike skinner. Poets with Attitude, free-form, stream-of-consciousness blues-rapping with acoustic guitars. It's lyrical genius of the observational kind and the weirdest, awkwardly endearing thing on earth right now.' - Steve Lamacq BBC Radio 1
'First Dylan, now this lot are stealing my songs' - Woody Guthrie
'I like the way the words rhyme man' - Rakim
'An energetic mixture of punk, old skool indie rock, 60's rock n roll and hip hop, but the most entising thing about this album is the story-telling.' .' - - Gigwise.com
'Everyone's Something, and someone's everything, so nobody's anything? ........'
MILK KAN'S debut album is finally released; and follows the underground hit 'God With An Ipod' which charted at number 10 in the independant charts in Dec 2008 following huge support from Huw Stephens at Radio 1 and a live session at BBC's Maida Vale studios.
Before this saw MILK KAN sampling Dolly Parton's‘Here Ya Come Again’ and their critically acclaimed debut ‘Bling Bling Baby’ – which attracted national radio airplay and support from BBC luminaries Steve Lamacq, Jonathan Ross, Mark Radcliffe and Chris Moyles – the track catapulted Milk Kan into a string of major league live performances.
They supported The Strokes at Hyde Park’s Wireless Festival, Babyshambles at East London's Rhythm Factory, The Violent Femmes at Shepherds Bush Empire – as well as extensive UK tours supporting current punk-underground favourites The King Blues.
Blaggers, chancers punks and urban poets – Milk Kan began as a two-piece back at the end of 2003; as Scrappy Hood and Jimmy Blade picked up their mothers' guitars and busked to the capital’s trains, tubes, and very-late night
buses.
Following the release of their bedroom-recorded debut in 2004 they swapped public transport busking for the Lower East Side of New York City; gigging at local open mic haunts before returning to London and signing a deal with
PIAS Records. Late 2007 saw Milk Kan’s signing to east London independent Blang – with their long-awaited debut album released on March 9th 2009.
