Spontaneous Combustion – Bobby Hutchingson- Code Red

Code Red: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Circumstances

Ordinary eh? I don’t personally consider an undercover FBI investigator & A female fire-fighter as just your average person. But I will concede that the circumstances are truly extraordinary: FBI poses as a fire-fighter to investigate a drug lord who turns out to be the chief of the fire brigade. FBI is forced to rescue our female fire-fighter {who gets trapped rescuing a dog} before he’s officially in town while trialling a special fire suit used when there are potential biohazards / explosives. Of course he then has to deny that it was him under the suit when she asks. Anyway – it’s a pretty average book but the ending trumps anything I’ve ever seen before.

He needed honesty from her. It was time to stop teasing and tell the absolute truth. It took great courage, but she did it.

“You are my knight in shining armour, John Sebastian McManus.” Her own eyes were brimming but her voice was strong. “And I will love you with all my heart for as long as I live and on through eternity.”

She felt the muscles in his arms relax, and then he kissed her.

And the dogs barked, and Aaron Cheered.

So ends the book. It’s almost as good as: “And then she woke up. Her mother said it was all a dream.”

when i return to melbourne for either a holiday or for good we must hold a MBS meeting complete with screening. i volunteer my parent's house ahead of time and without their knowledge :D

AB, I'm afraid I encountered that in April as well. Went to Cambers store - sold out. Went to East Kew store - sold out. Luckily there was some in another store just up High Street, but boy we were getting close!! A visit to the Cambers store last week, however, confirms that they have ample stock now, all new-looking (unfortunately that means higher prices [$1 each], but that's the cost of quality literature, I suppose).

OMG! I finally come up with a legit reason for heading over to the M&B Super Op Shop (I had to get a hard cover book a certain size for designing a dust jacket for a project) wander in and the shelves are full but Not an M&B - of any description - in sight! they have novels there now *sigh* let us hope that this is not the end of the super store just a temporary glitch in supply and demand.

Never Alone & Lassiter’s Law – Rebecca York – Intrigue
    Never Alone:

For detective Cal Rollins it began as an assignment – a pretend marriage to a key witness in order to flush out a serial killer. But from the minute he moved into Beth Wagner’s remote farmhouse, he knew this case, this woman would change his life forever. Though Beth led a solitary life, she was instantly drawn to her bodyguard by an almost mystical, irresistible force. How long could they live as ‘husband and wife’ and resist the fire that burned between them? In the lengthening shadows of night, Beth could hardly tell fantasy from reality anymore. She knew only that to reveal the killer meant exposing her lifelong secret…and that to save her life, and others, she’d have to risk her heart.

    Lassiter’s Law:

Loner P.I Sam Lassiter easily found the nanny who’d allegedly kidnapped her young charge. But Laurel Coleman was far from the dangerous deceptive woman his client – the boy’s father – had warned him about. Her arms held the boy lovingly and she begged Sam to believe her innocence. The trust in her eyes, the naiveté in her kiss pulled Sam into a vortex of emotion. Emotion he couldn’t allow, with the gun-toting client on their heels. Sam had no choice but to take Laurel and the boy on the run again. Except this time the tempting woman and child would make him face his deadliest enemy of all…

43 Light Street Series: These men and women can face danger head-on, because there’s no threat too great when you have the one you love by your side.

    Ab’s Rating: ♥♥1/2
43 Light St is quite good series – they run together really well & the characters have dimension and their own interesting pasts and flaws. Despite definitely not being a ‘psychic M&B’ appreciator - Never Alone is actually pretty good.

    May 26 2007 4:26 PM

The murder running through it provides a good frame work. Lassiter’s law jumps right in at the deep end with addressing alcoholism and abuse and even with the kid is really interesting.

Under the Gun – Lyn Stone - Intimate
After escaping the bullet that killed his twin, Special Agent Will Griffin awakened from a coma seconds before the assassin struck again. Now he’s on the run with the one woman who’ll stop at nothing to keep him alive – Holly Amberson.

Holly isn’t about to let anyone take Will down and it’s not long before several close brushes force he and Will to succumb to their escalating passion. But once the danger has passed, can she make Will see that his life isn’t worth living…unless she’s a part of it?

    Ab’s Rating: ♥♥♥1/2
I’m a really fan of this one. Will is temporarily blinded from the bullet that clipped him and killed Matt (his twin) and is forced to depend on Holly. There’s quite a lot of witty convos between them with distinct sparks. Again this has a psychic / empathy thing going but this one actually worked for me cos a lot of them time it was Matt (from beyond the grave) making smart ass comments.

The Perfect Target – Jenna Mills – Intimate
    Her deadly protector…
All Miranda Carrington wanted was to be free form her legendary family’s legacy of wealth and power. But even in a little seaside village in Portugal, she could not escape the danger that shadowed her. Only the sudden, stunning appearance of a dark, mysterious stranger had saved her from the ruthless terrorists stalking her. But was Allesandro Vellenti really the devoted guardian he claimed, or part of the deadly conspiracy swirling around her? She knew she shouldn’t trust him – with her life or with her heart. And yet, as she fled with him, she ached to give herself, body and soul, to this man who could be her killer…

    Ab’s Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Tall, dark, handsome….a jaded protector and a girl who wants to escape her family’s money and the recognition it brings. He comes out with some really beautiful dialogue & there is a constant theme of photographs which is very well done. It’s also got moments of wit *shock horror* all in all a good read.

He could handle raising his orphaned little brother and his demanding career. But what Joe Salazar couldn’t handle was this quirky little town where people actually cared. People like Taylor McIntyre.

Taylor has worked wonders with his heart broken little brother, but she scared the hell out of Joe. Because no kindergarten teacher he’d ever met before could make him want things he’d no business wanting – not when the only way Joe knew how to live was putting duty before desire…

    Ab’s Rating: ♥♥♥
