  • Bio

...... Hi Everyone, My name is Milt Gore. I am a full time guitar instructor, teaching both privately in NC and Myrtle Beach, SC. I grew up on music and began playing the guitar at age 5 after being introduced to the music of Johnny Cash. I guess you could say he was my first "Guitar Hero"! I began my musical journey just like most guitarist do, by strumming the old G, C, and D chords. As I got older, I began listening to other artists such as Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Jimi Hendrix,Lynyrd Skynyrd, and of course Elvis! I was standing in the backyard at my mom and dads when I heard the news of his passing. In the late 70's early 80's, my musical journey took me in more of a Hard Rock direction when AC/DC released their famous "Back In Black" album. Man, that thing ROCKED!!! I have owned several copies of the vinyl and CD. I thought Angus Young was SO cool jumping around and jamming. I was HOOKED! Of course, around this time the great VAN HALEN released their "Women and Children First" album. Eddie Van Halen was doing things unheard of on the guitar! Much to my surprise, I had missed 2 incredible albums by them (I & II). A friend of mine let me hear "Eruption" and that was it!! My obsession set in. In 1981, the "wailin' Halen, as we called them, released "Fair Warning". In the spring of that year I learned that Ozzy Osbourne had released a solo album featuring the groundbreaking guitar work of Randy Rhoads. This 'cemented" my obsession with playing and I have remained a dedicated guitarist to this very day. At that point I began playing and practicing as much as 12 hours a day. This was basically all I did in my early to late teens. I took music theory from the local community college where I learned theory and sightreading, and such. I studied and played with many wonderful players and teachers, including James Parker, Horace Pearsall, and Eddie Bush. These 3 GREATS really shaped my playing. I joined my first band in 1986. We were right in the middle of the 80's stuff. That band was such a blast. That band, called Phaze, played parties, schools, and dances. I have so many great memories of that band. I played in many bands following the demise of Phaze, some good and some bad. Some of the good ones include the "Top 40/Classic Rock" bands Big Dog, Tight Fit, and Jokers Wild. I also "subbed" for bands , including the Country band, Lonewolf, a group led by Nashville singer Kenny Reaves. In 1995, I joined a country group based out of Wilmington, called Sundown. This gave me the opportunity to, kind of, return to my "Johnny Cash" country roots. In fact, we actually played "Folsom Prison Blues" a few times. Of all the bands that I have played for, Sundown is by far my favorite. We were like family and the band was run like a band should be. No secrets, no inner circles. In the mid'90's, Country was taking on an edgier, rock vibe. This was great, because bands like Nirvana were taking over Rock music and solos became M.I.A. The new Country allowed me to continue "jamming"!LOL. In 1998, Sundown took a brief hiatus before reforming as The Dewey Grey Band. This incarnation of the band continued on until February 2000. At this point, I dedicated myself full time to teaching guitar. Throughout my career I have also done a lot of studio work, including recording an Acoustic Christmas CD called "Instrumental Christmas" in 2001. In June of 2003, I joined a Beach Music/Variety group called The Jiggs Fields Band(named after the Bassist). We played parties, weddings, dances, bars, along with professional studio sessions. I was only in the band about a year before leaving to focus on solo work, writing, and teaching. From 2004 through 2009, I was involved in various projects and bands and opened shows for many of the 80's greats. One particular highlight of 2009 was when I graced the pages of Guitar Player Magazine(July issue, page 22). It was just a small write-up, but I felt a strong sense of accomplishment. As a kid, I remember saying that one day I wanted to be in that very magazine. Well, It happened! Dreams do come true. GP Editor, Michael Molenda gave a rave review of my solo "Traumatized" which can be heard on my MySpace Player(above). Thanks Michael!!! You ROCK!!! 2010 looks to be a pivotal year for me. I am going through a rigorous "training" to become a Nashville Session Guitarist. If all goes as planned, I will be the 3rd person in my family to succeed on "Music Row" in Nashville. Also, I hope to make some guest appearances on friends projects all along the east coast, along with recording some originals I have written. I will keep everyone posted on upcoming projects and events. Thank you for taking the time to read this Bio. If you have any questions, just message me. Cheers!
