Why does everyone write these things in the third person?
Okay, this is me. I've been playing guitar & singing BVs for a wide variety of artists for 20 odd years, from Yes to Take That . I grew up listening to rock - Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, the usual stuff. When I started doing sessions in the mid-eighties no-one wanted any of that. So I discovered the beauty of rhythm guitar, Chic, Marvin Gaye,Curtis Mayfield, the guitar on these people's records isn't always a feature, but it's often essential to the groove of the thing. My musical taste is eclectic & hopefully this has made me a more versatile, open-minded musician. As a player, my role is to make the song work so, if I have a philosophy to the way I approach work, it's this-
1. Listen to the song.
2. Play something appropriate.
That's it. The song will dictate what it needs and everything else that you might try to shoe-horn in is just your ego.
Guitar solos are great though aren't they? Check out the end of Dark Chemistry above. In 2008 I'll be playing with Ray Davies, Take That, Sugababes, Patricia Kaas (big french artist) & Three Blind Mice (absolute genius).

The blue guitar is named Amber after my daughter, it was hand-made by Chris McIntyre at mcintyreguitars.com & has been, second only to the real Amber & my son Nathan, the love of my life for 10 years.. Well, Nathan's only 7 but you get the idea.. Oh, and I use Peavey amplification.
