Hello. My name is Milton J. Villarrubia, III. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana (Lakeview) and lived, learned to cook and played music there until I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 19. I lived in Santa Fe for five years, cooking and playing music; and I met the most incredible and inspiring woman in the world, my wife Hanna...and one of my best friends Carlos Santistevan. I moved back to New Orleans in 2001 to cook and attend The University of New Orleans, where I met some great musicians, teachers and friends. While in New Orleans, I studied with Johnny Vidacovich, Hank Mackie, Ed Peterson, Harold Battiste, Steve Masakowski, Brian Seeger and Troy Davis. I formed several groups that performed on the local music scene and taught private drum lessons at Ray Francen’s drum center. I also cooked at Emeril’s Restaurant…the original location on Tchoupitoulas. I was forced from my hometown as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Hanna and I moved back to Santa Fe to be close to musicians associated with High Mayhem; a nonprofit arts organization that supports emerging and multimedia arts. I continued to cook in Santa Fe and played in a lot of great bands and unique performances. I played in some the greatest ensembles that I had been a part of and eventually worked with The Santa Fe Opera as an Artist In Residence as Composer in the education department. I composed operas (classical and modern/avant garde) for students ranging from kindergarten to seventh grade. I learned so much from working with the directors and composers and students that I met there. Eventually, Hanna and I decided that we wanted to live in a bigger city than Santa Fe. We moved to Brooklyn, New York in August 2008 in persuite of the next chapter of our life. Hanna has found the job of her dreams, we are living in a great neighborhood and I am feeling fulfilled. I will continue to cook and play music until my time here on this earth is finished.
Hey there my friend. Hope the new year finds you well and doing great things out there in NY. I've been listening to our sessions lately. Cool stuff. We have such a great link. Be well. Matt
