Labradford was formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1992 and consists of Robert Donne, Carter Brown and Mark Nelson. The band has been described as guitar, keyboards, bass & subdued vocals mix up a brew of lo-ball ambiance and occasional icy sadness. An early press release compared them to: Neu, F/i, Spacemen3, Gate, Dead C. & Jim O'Rourke. Their first full-length album was released by Kranky in 1994. By their third full-length album, the eponymous release of 1996, Labradford began to infuse their music with sampled and real time percussion traces, at times faintly delving into actual syncopation.
By 1997, the group broadened and varied their sound with their fourth release. On "Mi Media Naranja," the group maintained their distinctive identity, adding a string section, Fender Rhodes electric piano and slide guitar to the trio's sound bank.
In 1998, member Mark Nelson's first full-length release as PanAmerican surfaced.
1999's release, "E luxo so" (Labradford's fifth) features contributions from a string quartet as well as a guest on dulcimer. Subtle blips of percussion and samples interweave through blurry guitars, bubbly electric piano and plangent organ and some gorgeous piano. Later that year, Labradford toured North America with godspeed you black emperor! and hosted their Festival of Drifting series alongside notables like Pole, Matmos and Papa M. The group then returned to their homes, now in Richmond, Washington DC and Chicago.
The year 2000 saw the second full-length release from PanAmerican, this time featuring guest performances by Rob Mazurek from Isotope/Chicago Underground as well as Alan and Mimi from Low. It also featured Casey Rice behind the mixing boards. Bobby Donne collaborated with Adam Wiltzie of Stars of the Lid and the self-titled debut album from Aix Em Klemm was released.
In 2001, the band released their sixth album, "fixed::context," recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago and engineered by Steve Albini. The new album found the trio stripping off the string trios of the last two albumns and working with interlocking sound sources and modifiers; Carter Brown's vintage synthesizers, organs and electric piano; the distinctive Duane Eddy plays Satie guitar of Mark Nelson and Bobby Donne's four and six string basses.
This is just a listener.
As winter is here, i am very glad to announce the release of 'centigrade', my first mini-album on [parvoart] recordings, along with a track on their 'advent' compilation also released today.
neve - centigrade
[ parvoart ] recordings parvo 011
3" CD mini-album
9 tracks + a multimedia photo gallery
centigrade is an appropriate title for neve’s debut mini-album on [ parvoart ], as (low) temperature is something that permeates throughout this release, which incidentally this time isn’t restricted to the audio realm: a flash gallery. 2°C, conceived by the artist provides an appropriate visual companion to the music.
neve describes centigrade as “sweet, moving sine tones, hazy sound waves, discreet music surrounding you... simultaneously inside and outside, close and far away, both accurate and blurry, like the sound of walking in the snow or the feeling you have while watching at the sun through the branches of a tree.“ as far as centigrade is concerned, this translates into a richly detailed ambient excursion that reveals something new with each listen, not unlike the more restrained moments of pan sonic’s aaltopiiri. release. when the artist refers to these pieces as “micro sound sculptures”, the immediate association is with the ice variety. hushed drones form a bed upon which various textures and half melodies – some from identifiable instruments, many not – float by, immersing and beguiling the listener: to quote the artist again “it is as much a time / space experience as a sonic experience as while playing i want to make the listener surrounded by sound, in a place where the time as no meaning.“
Dedicated to all the women, men, gays, lesbians or heteros, to all who have different politic opinions who are persecuted all over the world by laws, dictature, religions and corrupted states. From north to south, from west to east...

Our new album "Herbarium" is
out now on CdBaby (MP3 so far, physical CD is on its way).
Diverse palette of styles (post-rock,
ambient, electronica, trip-hop, with elements of noise, dub,
neoclassic and free improvisation), united by cinematic, slightly
pensive mood.
«Herbarium» is called so
because of heterogeneity of «songs», which can be
compared to miscellaneous leaves in the album, still being belonged
to the family of trees. Trying to avoid non-alive metaphors here,
only thought of diversity and warm and innermost feeling that
herbarium is capable to conjure up. «... This leaf I picked up
in the park where I met her, and this - I sat by the river,
contemplating...». So tracks were created – one was captured
in some magic jam, another – recorded layer by layer and
meticulously mixed then, next – cut from previous sessions and so
on.
All compositions are united by Poostosh
sense of music – mostly pensive, spatial, tender and experimental.
There's a lot of soul and charisma in every leaf... So please let
your soul look over our HERBARIUM.
