The nice thing about Exposition Park, is that nobody goes there who doesn't have a good reason to, as opposed to nearby Deep Ellum, where certain bad-vibe randomness has been know to spoil the fun.
By Day, Exposition Park is a sleepy warren of bohemian enterprise galleries, lofts, shops, video store, salon, restaurants, and a coffee house. By night, it bustles with its anchor Minc Lounge, a 3-year-old lounge thats still constantly getting huge word-of-mouth. The word is that Minc isnt like typical Dallas, just what many disaffected club goers want to hear. All those who feel geographically challenged are queuing up under the discreet red-light sign over the distressed metal door at 813 Exposition Avenue.
Inside, they find Shangri-La, almost literally, since the place is stuffed with Eastern bric-a-brac Buddhas, Sivas, a serene fountain in the foyer the in the foyer that Laotzu wouldve been proud to get hammered next to. The overall design is plywood contemporary meets opium den traditional. Oversized illuminated light boxes of exotic women oversee one of the bars. Comfy cuddle cribs along the west wall and a pillow-plumped sleight bed in the center of the main room provide an Unpainted Furniture harem for early arrivers. It all works really well!
Minc is roomy, with a 4,500 square-foot interior and a 2,500-square-foot back patio. Early in the week there are several nights that would appear to the refugees of work, featuring several nights drink specials. But the crescendo builds to Friday and Saturdays peak. The crowd is a multiethnic, multicultural, pansexual and damn glad about all that. Imagine a hot underground party scene straight out of NYC.
There is a very interesting crowd that hangs out at minc. "The whole concept was, let's start a place that you would find somewhere in New York--a place anyone can come. It's not a straight bar or a gay bar; it's not a rock club or a dance club. It's just a good atmosphere where people of all kinds can have a good time."
If you're a social misfit in Dallas, minc opens its arms to you, baby. The Exposition Park hotspots recently broadened its booking horizons to remind men and women, gay and straight, black and white and tall and short that its all about the music.
