OSNR booking, promotions & productions	Dec 1 2008 11:45 PM welcoming ADAM DILLER Producer and Saxophonist, Adam Diller will join The Nati Groove Alliance (tomorrow) Tuesday, Dec. 2 for a set of Funk, Jazz, Hip-hop & Electronics.. @ Baba Budan's -- 239 W. McMillan -- 513 221-1911 We asked Adam a few questions about how he produces his music ... This is a part of his reply .. "...for the production I'm mostly working on figuring out ways of digging into areas opened up by sample-based hip-hop producers but with live instruments. my drummer matt crane has a lot of drums, percussion, most of it old and very select. he also has a guy named gregg keplinger who makes custom cymbols, snares, and percussion. I add my analog synth work, horns, string arrangements, and a lot of unusual micing and mixing techniques. we're going for a sound that has the multiple dimensions of a sample-based track, where you can hear the samples pulling away from each other but somehow staying together. to get that sound we end up doing stuff like recording each drum part separately and micing each pass differently, putting a different feel on the swing of the hi-hat and bass drum (stuff too extreme to do at the same time). our approach is really all about getting the most depth into a track. for that reason we don't loop any of our parts. sometimes this means that we spend hours just trying to get a clean take of a really hard but minimal part, which is maybe barely audible in the mix. for me this gives the stuff a depth that grows with repeated listens."
