Formed initially in early 2003 by guitarist and songwriter Mike Tucci, Mind Over Matter grew out of a desire to create a unique sound that blends wide and varied influences with aspects of complexity and simplicity. The idea is to take the listener on a sonic journey that travels from vast soundscapes to focused, heavy rhythms, from "in your face" to near-ambience, and to compliment the broad sonic landscape with meaningful lyrics that offer hope and challenge. Just a few weeks into the project Chris Hall came on board. Chris lends invaluable speed, technique and feel on the guitar, as well as expansive keyboard abilities that give depth and emotional impact to the music.
Good drummers are hard to find, but great drummers are like finding that illusive pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow. Through a chance meeting at a Dream Theater concert (actually all the Dream Theater concerts...and Symphony X concerts, and whatever prog concerts came along) Mike met Adam Schlegel, drummer extraordinaire! Adam was frustrated with the project he was in at the time and looking for something more progressive. Actually taking months to finally hook up in the studio for rehearsal, Adam's style fit perfectly with the band. His ability to blend drumming styles and innovate within changing time signatures grew new life into Mind Over Matter's music.
Together, this foundation of Mind Over Matter projects a vast and bright future. The music and philosophies are designed to evoke emotion and inspiration to bring people together with the possibility of creating a better future. We believe in the power of music to move people and be a positive force in their lives.
Along with the progressive metal stylings of Mind Over Matter's full band arrangements, Mike and Chris have been rearranging some of the songs for acoustic guitar and piano. This creates a completely different dynamic in the music which provides a unique voice in the singer/songwriter crowd. They are calling it "acousti-prog" and hope to reach a broader audience who might not otherwise be interested in listening to the heavier music.
We believe that music can truly change the world, and we invite everyone to join us on the journey.
Lyrics for "The Last Vestiges of Hope:"
THE LAST VESTIGES OF HOPE
There comes a time in our existence when we reach a point in life that we ask ourselves: should we continue on the same path that has lead us to where we are today, or should we strike off in a new direction, fraught with fear of the unknown and possible failure, but a road, none-the-less, which may lead us to becoming the person we have always wanted to be.
It is easy to do what is comfortable, to stay within the realm of the familiar. But, has this lead us to where we really want to be? Has this fulfilled our dreams?
Within our comfort zone lies mediocrity. Within mediocrity lies the seeds and eventual fruition of lost hopes, dead dreams. This is the land of “If only I had...”; “If only I had tried...”
Outside our comfort zone, in that inglorious, hesitant step into an unknown future lies the realization of hopes silently dreamt, but never spoken. It is not an easy step, nor an easy trail to blaze. Failure lies just beyond each footfall. The paralyzing hand of fear is always outstretched, reaching to snag even the slightest garment of doubt in which we enwrap ourselves. But, it is down this path where the realization of all our hopes and dreams are to be found. It is the constant journey of challenge and rediscovery which leads us to the ultimate understanding of ourselves, and yields the deepest depths of compassion for others, for we can truly understand the path on which they struggle.
So there comes a time in every life where we are confronted with the question of which path to take. And the answer is the very next step that we take. And we make that decision EVERY DAY!

Hey MIKE and Inside The Mind, we have posted a test mix (a teaser!) of THE ETHEREAL DREAM featuring former HELLOWEEN singer master Michael Kiske. It's not a heavy track.. but there are still some rocking parts with high vocals! Two different versions of this song will appear on our debut. The original is featuring the huge talent of Mike Gorham... while the 'Kiske-version' will be added as a bonus track". About "34613"; we're slowly but surely getting there! Only 2 more songs left to record now. I'll keep you updated. Have a great weekend. Best wishes from Sörvik "Rock" City and Northern Norway.. PS! We have also uploaded a 34613-teaser for YouTube. I know I was surprised too! Time is nearing and so little time left. I've been taking care of my mom lately in AZ, since my step-dad died end of Aug, and again returning this Sat for a week. Things are getting better now and I can take a break from traveling in Oct to tend to my personal and military life. I hope all is well with you. Once I get a normal schedule again I will contact you via phone or email. Thanks ~ S
Are you having a good start to the week? Anything new happening with you?
I just revamped my page. I'm going recording an album and going on tour, yeaahh! :-) I'm doing a fundraiser with extreme activities! Wanna do something crazy with me?! www.heather-williams.com/rock.htm Watch out!
I have some backers already, there names are on my guitar! I posted some pics.
My band AXIS will be playing their last gig TONIGHT Saturday, August 29th at THE PENNANT EAST in BELLMAWR NJ. It's also an un-official going away party for me before I leave for Musician's Institute in California.
If you've never come out to see us, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!!
Thanks, sweetheart.. I'm feeling MUCH better today! It's really the first day I feel like doing anything besides sleep. I'm kinda freaked about how it happened, tho. It really WAS a fluke and the funny part is that it's a GOOD thing he hit me that hard cuz he heard it. If it wasn't such a hard blow I could have drowned in a heartbeat! Makes you realize how precious life is and how it could be gone in split second.
But I'm really back to my feisty little self so life is good ;)
Hope all is wonderful with you and have yourself a GREAT week!
Thank you, darlin'.. that's an awesome compliment and I truly DO appreciate being appreciated ;)I just left a comment for a friend regarding the band blocking other bands issue.. I don't usually just copy and paste but it says how I feel about the matter so here you go.. So what if they just wanna add you just to increase their numbers? Who is that hurting? And if you approve them and leave them a THANK YOU comment and they don't reply.. so what? I have over 40,000 friends.. mostly bands.. and I listen to EVERY band I approve. That IS time consuming but occasionally I find that hidden gem that blows my mind. THAT makes it all worthwhile to me. And denying other bands ALSO denies them of the remote possibility that something positive could come out of it.. swapping gigs.. making friends.. making new fans. It's called NETWORKING and you never know what might come of a new contact. I know it SUCKS that most bands never take the time to say THANK YOU or even listen to your music but that's THEIR loss so let them have at it. To be continued in next comment.. It cut me off!
Anyway, that's my feelings on bands who are stupid enough to limit their horizons ;) And as long as we have that pretty little DELETE button it's all good. Bottom line.. you WON'T see a band making it if they don't have common courtesy. I REFUSE to believe they'll go anywhere and not many will ever hear their music because we're not the only ones who feel this way.. Over 150 friends have left comments agreeing with us on my blog and probably another 250 have mentioned it in regular comments. Let's face it.. how many people REALLY read promotion posters? How many people even remotely remember those bands at the end of the day? The ones who ARE remembered are the ones who say THANK YOU and tell their fans that they appreciate them. They're copied and pasted but who cares? It's the thought that counts ;) Anyway, I've been replying to comments from people who agree with us for hours. What does that tell you? Case closed :) So, thank you, sweetheart.. it's people like you who make it ALL worthwhile! Have some fun this weekend and think of me sitting here with my owie! LOL Sending you tons and tons of Love § Rock 'n Roll Kisses! Jade XoXoX
“I'm becoming more and more myself with time. I guess that's what grace is. The refinement of your soul through time.” “Love bravely, live bravely, be courageous, there's really nothing to lose.” “I was thinking that I might fly today. Just to disprove all the things you say... please be careful with me, I'm sensitive, and I'd like to stay that way.” “Maybe I could have loved you better. Maybe you should have loved me more. Maybe our hearts were just next in line. Maybe everything breaks sometime.”
Hailz to you, new friend! Thanks for the kind words. You're music rocks as well!! I've deleted the comment you brought to my attention, thanks! Have a wonderful weekend!!
