WE ARE BREAKING GROUND!!!!
Help us celebrate a new center for dance!

After being a vaudeville theater, a house of burlesque, a street front church, a downtown movie theater, and earning a Guinness Book of World Records title for the largest building ever moved, the Shubert Theater is embarking on it's newest life. The Minnesota Shubert Center will host a ceremony to break ground on the Twin Cities only dedicated space for dance. A reception and performances from our local dance partners will follow in the Hennepin Center for the Arts. All are welcome to attend.

2 Days! $5 Entry Fee on both days.

    Friday, July 3rd, 2009 4pm-9pm

Boom Bap village is a 2 day nation-wide Hmong Hip Hop event that will happen on July 2nd and 3rd before the Annual Hmong Sports tournaments at Como Park that will include a Breakdance Competition, MC Battle, 1 on 1 Poppin Dance Off and Hip Hop Showcase. The name Boom Bap Village comes from how Hip Hop has uplifted refugee and immigrant communities that may have originated from villages and given them a means of expression and a voice.

"The amount of Hip Hop and breakdance groups in our community these days in the 2000s are about the same as the amount of gangs that existed back in the 90s. Meaning that there has been a huge positive shift for our youth since we have embraced urban art forms that give us an outlet of expression."

We are expecting 250-300 people a day and Hip Hop performers include Plucky from Sacramento, CA, Roger Kue from Providence, RI, Fres (Ill Ego Aliens) and Elfy (RARE and Grand Torino) from Milwaukee, WI, Duce Khan, Atlanta, GA, Toki Wright (Rhymesayers) and Tou SaiKo Lee from Twin Cities, MN and many more.

Many youth have been deprived of these opportunities to express themselves through these art forms and pushed aside during the July Hmong Sports Tournaments, grouped together and stereotyped with negative influences. We perceive it differently, we believe in the potential of the next generation and this as an opportunity to show that these expressive activities are actually keeping youth positive and a
