MINNESOTA VIXEN,, MOVE TO NEW LEAGUE,
WILL NOW PLAY IN SPRING
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Vixen, the country’s longest-operating women’s professional tackle football team, will change leagues for the 2008 season from the Women’s Professional Football League (WPFL) to the National Women’s Football Association (NWFA).
The Minnesota Vixen,,, members of the original 1999 Barnstorming Tour and one of two original teams in the Women’s Professional Football League, are excited about their move to the NWFA.
“This move is great for us on both a business and competition level, as we are on the eve of our 10th anniversary season. The modern era of women’s football began in Minnesota in 1999, and it would be fantastic to bring home a championship in 2008,” said Jodi “Moose” Benson Houglum, director of marketing for the team.
We believe that the NWFA gives us the best opportunity for marketing exposure and profitability, having already signed national sponsors in addition to the NWFA's debut on Women's Sports TV in 2008. NWFA President/CEO Catherine Masters has a proven track record with promoting women's sports, having worked with the famed the Virginia Slims tennis circuit which rose to prominence in the late 1980s.
The NWFA season runs from mid-April through the end of July. For more information about the NWFA, visit http://www.womensfootballcentral.com or contact NWFA President/CEO Catherine Masters at 615-860-4084.
