My school,England, Ireland, Tracey Thorn, Nancy Wilson (jazz singer not 'Heart ' singer /guitarist although she's pretty far out too) Chrissy Hynde, Debbie Harry, Michelle Oldland (cellist, singer/songwriter most beautiful girl at my school who I had a mad girl crush on when I was 12. she gave me 'The River' when I was homesick and 'Hungry Heart' became an internal anthem for the rest of high school) blackberry picking with my Ma, My sister Kate and her grace in all the weird permutations of Hollywood, My Dad in everything. every teacher I ever had. Helen Mirren, Fiona Shaw, Anastasia Hille in Measure for Measure, Katrin Cartilage, watching Philip Seymour Hoffman work and feeling scared I'd fuck everything up, my dogs face early morning when the waves get big and wake him up, The Ocean(both left and right coast ) growing up in Barbados, lack,abundence, surfing with blue lips, Pete and Jen Johnson, Doc Dauer, Pete Yorn, Rami Jaffe, George Harrison,Josh Rouse, Ray Lamontagne, Dylan, Neil Young,Gus Van Sant, Joel Shumacher,Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy,the guy or gal who invented Star bars (had to spend time eating sweets in England)
So, I've been writing music my whole life, long before acting I was singing up a 400 year old oak tree developers were threatening to cut down. It was a protest, I was 8 and I wore a kilt . My english teacher (Bob, who played the guitar and looked like John Fogerty) and I got on the local news, but they cut that beautiful tree down anyway. Music from that moment seemed like a powerful tool if you had something to say. I've been working on having something to say for a while, I was signed to Island in a band when I was 19 but we made a terrible record and drank most of the development money, they quite rightly dropped us and I went off to live in Uraguy with my sister, we were completely broke and selling vintage jeans on the beach to rich kids from Buenes Ayres, I got a call one day at the post office that EMI were interested in signing me so I came back to London took the meeting and in the same week auditioned for, and got got cast in the movie'Circle of Friends'. I got fat for the role which seemed more impressive than it actually was (Muchos doughnuts are not hard to swallow) the movie went better than the meeting at EMI and so I got side tracked by an amazing career . And now, now I juggle. life is big and broad and too short to be pigeon holed into one little box, it never fails to astonish me however, how many people don't want you to be able to do more than one thing creatively... I refuse to subscribe to this impoverished way of thinking and plan to carry on making music, movies, babies, dinner and stories until I drop.

Who, if I cried out, would hear me among the angels' hierarchies? and even if one of them pressed me suddenly against his heart: I would be consumed in that overwhelming existence. For beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror, which we still are just able to endure, and we are so awed because it serenely distains to annihilate us. Every angel is terrifying. And so I hold myself back and swallow the call-note of my dark sobbing. Ah, whom can we ever turn to in our need? Not angels, not humans, and already the knowing animals are aware that we are not really at home in our interpreted world. Perhaps there remains for us some tree on a hillside, which every day we can take into our vision; there remains for us yesterday's street and the loyalty of a habit so much at ease when it stayed with us that it moved in and never left. Oh and night: there is night, when a wind full of infinite space gnaws at our faces. Whom would it not remain for -- that longed-after mildly disillusioning presence, which the solitary heart so painfully meets. Is it any less difficult for lovers? But they keep on using each other to hide their own fate. Don't you know yet? Fling the emptiness out of your arms into the spaces we breathe; perhaps the birds will feel the expanded air with more passionte flying.
