www.mintsouth.com

www.mintsouth.com has been setup by Southampton promoters Jodie Copeland and Brett Summers, and Winchester Massive editor Rob Ball. The site features news, reviews, videos, interviews, podcasts, guest columns and local artist profiles. The aim is to bring the scene together in one place and give a complete picture of the music scene in Hampshire.

They have a team of experienced writers and photographers, all with a background of writing for well known publications. Guest columns are provided by seasoned local promoters Joel Ransom, Oliver Gray and Ally Wolf, each bringing you their views on the happenings in the Hampshire scene. There is also a monthly podcast from Southampton based label, Sotones.

mINtSOUTH is entirely non-profit making, and everyone involved is putting their time and effort in for the love of music, and the getting the scene the recognition it deserves.

Since going live in January this year, the site has been averaging 800 hits per day, something they hope to improve on after their official launch on 22nd February. Rob Ball from mINtSOUTH added “Over the last few years, there have been a lot of very good band making an impression locally, and really made people sit up and take notice. Currently leading the pack are Thomas Tantrum, Skulls, Hijera, The Ramblings, The Ashbies, Caesura, Nicotine Smile, SomaHigh, The Sam McCarthy Band and Thos Henley. I believe in 2009, some of these bands will be recognised throughout the UK, and we’re here to make sure they get the local support they need.”

Jodie Copeland explains: "A couple of years ago Brett and I had this vision of a Hampshire website that tells people what is going on in the local area; something that shows people what bands to look out for, what gigs are on, and something that is regularly updated - it is something that many areas of the country have got, but nothing in Hampshire. We were inspired by a local promoter from The Joiners in Southampton, the late Mint Burston. We had a play on words, using his name, but it also stands for "Music in the South". Ever since, we've dabbled with a couple of website designs and mainly used networking sites such as Facebook or Myspace to talk to the people....but it's never really been anything like our original vision. Thankfully, Rob has come on board and it seems like his vision was the same as ours - the finished product is a sparkly new website that has got every aspect of our original idea....and more."

Although mainly championing the local scene, the site will also bring you news and reviews of touring bands coming to the local venues.
