Sounds Like
I've been told I sound uniquely like myself, actually. Personally, I have a hard time labeling my music because what I write has so obvious, yet so different, influences every time I sit down to write. You might think of it as an ice cream cone; a mix of classical music and Gregorian chant would be the cone, the basis of it all. Then there's the ice cream - one with a distinct gothic flavour, then another tasting more like postpunk and new wave, and the last ball hints strongly of jazz and ambient. Of course, the cherry on top would be grown on soil fertilized with folk music and vaudeville/ cabaret. Now, even though this metaphor was written somewhat tongue in cheek, it still fits rather nicely. Now, label that!
Minyaliel is a one- woman (currently) band starring Nikola Hoff Almenning on vocals (and sometimes other instruments as well) and occasional guest players. The project was established in 2004, but was left in a dusty corner until 2008, when the decision to continue on with it was made. Singing on occasional concerts eventually lead to where it is now, after the first song was released here on Myspace in April 2008.
The name "Minyaliel" is Sindarin (one of J.R.R. Tolkien's invented Elvish languages) and means "Daughter of the Dawn". It is also one of the vocalist's more frequently used nicknames, and the one she appreciates the most. It refers to her time of birth, as she was born at sunset, and also caters to her preference for romance in general.

Yeah, I was gone for a while. Been busy with music work (working w/my band now) and school work (at a boarding school for over a year). I'm good, finally getting my shit together, clean. You? (and you've got such a nice voice, btw!)
