MINYO- Folk songs point to the musical singing passed down for many generations as universal songs. While Japan had been a maritime country, it was also an agricultural country centered on rice farming. In Japan, work songs have been the mainstream of folk songs. Their lyrics often started with a prayer for a good harvest and prosperity. Folk songs have breathed in the lives of people in a free environment, with no need for special protection for a long time.
Even in a narrow country such as Japan, from ancient times people have passed on many songs that were cherished in their local land and climate. The prayers of a true heart and old emotions have thus survived. Folk songs are a form of "encyclopedia" for understanding Japan, and one can think that singing folk songs contributes to bringing up Japanese people from childhood. A folk song is much the same as a natural and beautiful plant or flower that is not on public display or shown to an audience.
A folk song has been cultivated intently in a free space. Since it was born from a rhythmic sensibility in an intimate contact with nature, it is a free form of music quite irrespective of a particular style, climate, or mentality, but one can think of understanding Minyo as Japanese music, and there is an echo of that.
To recognize and believe in a susceptibility cherished by a certain climate of mind and environment, the rhythm that flows in one's soul is indispensable, and the strength of that will change music into "a free style."

Hi Minyo Station. Hitomi and I loved your concert on Feb. 27th. I posted a concert review at: http://digitalchopsticks. com check it out and let me know what you think.
Minyo Station minna san, Thanks for the add and kind words. Also wanted to thank you for the awesome experience - when 3 strings meet 6 string. It sounded really good. My wife and I really enjoyed the whole concert. Just wanted to let you guys know there is a gig held in San Dimas next Friday night at 8. Caleb Quaye (Elton John band co-founder, and worked with Paul McCartney, The Who, Rolling Stone, a one of the finest guitarist on the planet) and his band are playing at a local coffee shop. He would come to your concert if he was in town. He has toured all over the world but Asia. I've told Yu about the gig, he might come as well. Please stop by if you guys like - when Rock meet Jazz & Blues. Keep up the awesome work - Japanese ROOT & SPIRIT - BANZAI!
