Bio
"...where an economic recession, a war and an ecological catastrophe are front page news, MIRIAMS WELL's embrace of a more idealistic sound and sensibility couldn't have come at a better time." - Listen to Mir and Mark talk about the new CD with DJ Brian Lush on RockWiredRadio "Mir is Joplinesque. Miriams Well could easily have happened in the sixties...it's funky, soul-infused acid blues rock. Whatever you call it, it's damn entertaining. 'Nuff said. Their show was amazing!" - Alaya-Wyndham Price, Oregon Music News "One of the most exciting bands to come out of Portland in a long time!" - KINK Radio, Portland OR With a bit of soul/R&B grit, blues rock shouter and a welcome excess of heart and emotion, Mir German and Mark Bowden are Miriams Well – the Pacific Northwest's torch bearer for honest, hard hitting rock and roll. As songwriters, the pair dip deep into the late 60's and early 70's rock era to create their own unique blend of guitars, keys and horns married to Mir's over the top vocal and stage persona. With echoes of Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and San Francisco to London, their original songs pull from the best of classic rock and mix it up with Mir's direct, in-your-face lyrics about the world and life as she lives it. Their first full length CD, Indians and Clowns (released in 2010), a collaboration between the pair and underground songwriting legend Lee Garrett - author (with Stevie Wonder) of the hit Signed, Sealed, Delivered, featured performances by guitar great Jeff Pevar (David Crosby & CPR) and percussionist Debra Dobkin (Richard Thompson) as well as the cream of the crop of Northwest players. Their upcoming full length (due in Spring/Summer 2012), Tears Like A River, features another great batch of songs from the Mir/Mark/Lee writing team. A special limited edition collector's preview EP debuted at SXSW/RedGorilla 2012. Collectively, Mir and Mark have shared stages with performers such as Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carlene Carter, Sonny Landreth, Spencer Davis, Taj Mahal and Curtis Salgado to name but a few. In the last 18 months the band (with Lee) completed two major cross country tours, two buzz-worthy multiple showcase appearances at SXSW/RedGorilla 2011/2012, and a blistering Main Stage set in front of 10,000+ fans at the Portland Waterfront Blues Fest. This filmed performance went on to become one of the talked about shows of the entire four day event. Most recently, the band participated in The Next Waltz (a re-creation of The Band's legendary 1976 farewell show). The event was a sellout with one long time local DJ declaring it the best show she'd seen in 25 years! Mir and Mark are hard at work on the new release, Tears Like A River, and gearing up for the spring/summer NW festival season. -
