MIRTHRANDIR’s music was influenced by the major bands of the day and reflects the styles of Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Yes and Genesis, yet the six piece band soon developed their own paradigm and set off in a different direction. MIRTHRANDIR’s two guitarists developed a unique contrapuntal style unlike that of any progressive act and it was not unusual for the group to spend several weeks perfecting one minute of music. The impossibly dense and complex works created by MIRTHRANDIR plainly reflected the band member’s unusual vision and dedication to their craft.
MIRTHRANDIR features four of the six original band members; vocalist and trumpeter John Vislocky III, bassist and flautist James Miller. drummer and percussionist Robert Arace, and keyboardist Simon Gannett, as well as new members Alan Benjamin, Tim McMahon on the twin guitars.

In the Baroque style of classical music, such as Bach or Vivaldi, each instrument played a melody that intertwined with the others instead of simply supporting a singer or a lead instrument. Lead Singer Syndrome has taken this concept and incorporated it into different styles of music.
