ABOUT MISS 616 AND HER DYSPHORIC WORLD
Hi and thanx for checking out this page. This myspace page is for the body of work and projects by Miss 616. I’m a musician, DJ and a budding graphic designer
My main band was called Squid, but I changed it in 2003 and it became 616 Abortions, which I know was a vile name, but was more representing the very dark, bleak and raw feelings I’d been going through and the lyrics and songs I’d been writing. On of Squid’s biggest achievements was we were twice voted ’Best Unsigned Band’ in Metal Hammer magazine’s annual reader’s poll at the end of 1999/2000. We played some great shows up and down the country with some really fantastic bands, and also a few shows in Europe, but kinda got stuck in a holding pattern when I was working out more pressing traumatic personal things that were going on with my life the past few years. The band 616 Abortions has been kinda in a holding phase for years now, and it was always my plan to get the band back and relaunch it under the modified name of SIXSIXTEEN as soon as my gender change problems had been addressed, but in Feb 2006 I had surgery on my thoat which has meant that singing for me is not possible and may never will be, so I am still in an indefinate holding pattern for this band sadly.
And this will to be honest be one of my biggest regrets about the throat operation as I adored perfoming with my wonderful band members Jared, Gemma, and especially the terrifying onstage carnage that was DeathStarDom. I wish we’d managed a lot more shows together as it was a fabulous time when we did play. Many highlights, including supporting APB and Thr Cruxshadows, and even a bit of a disaster soundwise at our very last Bradford 1 in 12 show is very fondly remembered. That may well have been THE MOST DEFINATIVE RENDITION OF ’ENDGAME’ EVER hehe!!!
Before my surgery though, during 2006 I spent most of that year playing solo shows which consisted of me perfoming an almost Cabaret Style set of songs which mixed up SQUID/616 tracks with new songs I’d written as a solo artist and a mix of covers of a few of the that inspired me. I didn’t perform these all at the same time, but this list included
DAVID BOWIE - Suffragette City
NIN - Burn
BAUHAUS - Largatija Nick
MUSE - Hysteria
SOFT CELL - Bedsitter
MANIC STREET PREACHERS - Design for Life
PLACEBO - Nancy Boy
I really enjoyed playing guitar an singing live and was very glad I did have those experiences, particularly if indeed I’m not going to be able to sing again as a performer
THE NEW CHAPTER - UNINVITED GUEST
The saying goes, "one door closes, another door opens"
That’s exactly how I’m feeling right now about the band I’ve just joined - Uninvited Guest
I’d been a fan of the band for many years since meeting them at Darklands way back and hearing their amazing debut album ’Faith in Oblivion’. I even got to support them on one of my solo shows at the Midian event in Liverpool back in 2006 and was massively impressed (and I’ve played with a *lot* of bands*!!)
So when I came across a post on their myspace page (yey for myspace!!!) about them needing a new bassist it just seemed like a fantastic way for me to become active again as a performer and musician.
Initial meetings went brilliantly as we found we had an awful lot in common and shared many similar passions and views on the world and on music. Rehersals also went great, and I’m VERY proud and happy to say I am now a full-time member of this amazingly talented and creative band and will be performing with them when they launch their amazing new album at the PITCH BLACK Thursday in Whitby @ The Resolution on October 25th. And best of all, entry is FREE !!!!
To hear some of their new tracks from their fantastic second album MALICE IN WONDERLAND, and catch up on their 1st album if you havent already, please visit their myspace at UNINVITED GUEST
Dates for DARK-CIDE in 2008 - Miss 616’s Club Night
EVERY LAST SATURDAY AT THE NEW VENUE OF MERCURY FLUX
If you want to see and hear more of 616 please visit my soundclick page at 616abortions or better yet watch the video above to see us in action. We shot the video ourselves and I edited it all together, and worked out so well I can’t wait to do a couple more.
I’m always on the look out for any session work in any style. I’ve worked as a pro guitar tutor since I left college, and can play guitar and bass in many styles. I have Assosiated Board Grade 8 Classical Guitar and Music Theory.
Sessions so far have included music for the Night of the Living Dead/George A. Romero computer game (which sadly never came out as the publisher went bust), and an as yet un-named dance/rock project set to be released this year.
This video is of a Dr Who inspired thingy I did years ago, and then Jared (DJ Batastrophe) made the video as a surpise. It was under the anonymous banner of ’The Cyberstrumpets’, mostly a daft name for a bit of a fun/daft track. I love the video though. The track was made before the ’new’ series of Dr Who had even been anounced, and Jared used some of the trailers for the new series in the video. Doubt there’ll be any other cyberstrumpets tracks - but if I get drunk enough one day (and that does happen a lot) you never know....
Hey hun, its a shame you're not going to be able to make it to our lolita meetup in Whitters :( I don't think I'll be going to the spa myself, I don't really have enough money for the tix. Think my parents are on about staying in a caravan for the weekend though O.o would make it alot easier than going back and forth from Middlesbrough. Hope you're well and that your gig goes well on the 25th :)
Hey babes! Yea, thanks for adding me too! IAMX were something else in Sheffield, I reckon they're the sort of band that would never disappoint live - bit like U.G.! ;) Some gorgeous pics on your profile too, really liked what you did with the UG photos ass well - On the ceiling like squashed flies! LOL!
Hi Miss 616! Wow! Love your new profile pic! FAB! Just putting the finishing touches to my Masked Ball oufitfor Afterlife tonight!See you soon! Liz xxx
My darling love... The chances that miss616 would fall in love with me - being born on the 6th month on the 16th - I'd say they were one in million.
And YOU are ONE in a MILLION Jane... Had such an amazing week with you and the fact that things can and will get better - well that blows my mind.
IAMX were ace last night and I felt VERY loved by you and close to you as we were watching them and when 'our song' was played I felt pretty emotional.
I love you so much Jane - you have me... I'm all yours xx+xx
