There is no real way to aptly explain the music that Miss Distress creates. Formed in the northern hills of New Jersey, Miss Distress has been experimenting with jazz, funk, and rock, since 2006. This power trio comprised of guitar, organ, and drums, isn’t comfortable with being labeled into any one sub-genre of music; rather they prefer to be known as a conglomerate of great sounds. Since their start, they have been leaving audiences amazed with the individuality of their timbre, melodies, rhythm, and tone.
Although not properly formed until last year, the history of Miss Distress stems back to the earlier part of the decade, when the musicians Neal Goldberg (guitar/vocals), Yan Falmagne (organ), and Matt Johnson (drums), met at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in school, all three learned the professional standards of the music industry as well as how to interpret and play different styles. While Neal’s background focused on traditional rock n’ roll and Yan and Matt’s styles were more based on jazz, the three found a common ground during impromptu jams that led them to believe that something great could be created with a combination of the two.
After each member spent time pursuing his own musical interests, the band promptly reformed in 2006 when all three landed back in the New York area. A jam ensued to ensure that the chemistry was still there, and it definitely was. Before long, Miss Distress had grown into something bigger and badder than all three musicians could have ever imagined.
We used to be called "Mumrik" that was looking for a singer and now we finally found a singer and the band name became STM since we are working together at a distance of 6000miles from Leeds, UK to Kyoto, Japan. We have uploaded 3 songs now. Check out how it works.
