BIKES!! Road bikes, hybrid bikes, little kids on bikes, mountain bikes, racing, commuting, touring..... COMMUNITY! We believe in giving back to our community. We sponsor community events such as Bike to Work Day, Berkeley Earth Day, and the Grizzly Peak Century http://www.grizzlypeakcyclists.org/. We're the proud sponsors of Team Oakland Cycling http://www.teamoakland.com/. Nationally recognized cyclists who started out racing for the Missing Link include Ben Jacques-Maynes and Gina Hall! We support our local clubs & cycling organizations by giving discounts to members of BFBC, EBBC, GPC, OYJ, Team in Training, & AIDS/Lifecycle riders. We also support the NorCal High School Mountain Bike Racing League http://www.norcalmtb.org/. We accept donations of used cycling clothing in good condition for the NorCal Lycra Drive program. YOU and DYI! 1000's of cyclists have benefitted from our free bicycle repair classes & used our self-service repair area (aka Loaner Tools), where basic tools and repair manuals are available for you to work on your own bike for free. ENVIRONMENT! We are committed to bikes as transportation & reducing waste, & we're a Bay Area Certified Green Business http://www.greenbiz.ca.gov/. We recycle as much as possible: the usual suspects with cardboard, glass, etc, but we also recycle polyethylene film from packaging and scrap metal, and send our worn-out chains to Resource Revival http://www.resourcerevival.com/, who crafts them into cool new stuff. Old inner tubes are used by local craftspeople and artists instead of going in the garbage. We're also participating in the Clif Bar/Terra Cycle Energy Bar Brigade campaign to collect used energy bar wrappers for recycling.

We are a collectively owned and operated bike shop, providing new and used bicycles, parts, accessories and clothing, and bicycle repair in Berkeley since 1971. What's a worker collective? In short, a worker collective is owned and controlled by the employees. The employees of the store are the worker-owners and own equal shares of the shop and have long meetings deciding how to run it together. This kind of business benefits the workers by providing a sustainable, egalitarian, empowering workplace. It benefits the community because local owners are responsive to local concerns and profits are not exported outside of the community. It also benefits the customers because every time you walk through our door, you are speaking to an owner, not an indifferent wage slave accountable to distant management. For more information, check out the Network of Bay Area Worker Cooperatives at www.nobawc.org
We sell road, commuter/hybrid, mountain, touring, cyclocross, singlespeed, cruiser, and kids' bikes from Trek, Bianchi, Jamis, Felt, Marin, Dahon, Surly and Ridley, as well as SOMA by special order. Our shop is in downtown Berkeley at 1988 Shattuck Avenue, one block from the downtown Berkeley BART. We are open Mon - Fri 10-6, Sat 10-6, Sun 11-6 (summer hours differ).
