We are a collectively owned and operated bike shop, providing new and used bicycles, parts and accessories, and bicycle repair in Berkeley since 1971~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What's a worker collective?
In short, a worker collective is owned and controlled by the employees. The employees of the store are the worker-owners and own equal shares of the shop and have long meetings deciding how to run it together. This kind of business benefits the workers by providing a sustainable, egalitarian, empowering workplace. It benefits the community because local owners are responsive to local concerns and profits are not exported outside of the community. It also benefits the customers because every time you walk through our door, you are speaking to an owner, not an indifferent wage slave accountable to distant management. For more information, check out the Network of Bay Area Worker Cooperatives at www.nobawc.org~~~~~~~~~~~~~We sell road, commuter/hybrid, mountain, touring, cyclocross, and kids' bikes from Trek, Bianchi, Jamis, Marin, and Ridley, as well as Surly and SOMA by special order. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our shop is in downtown Berkeley at 1988 Shattuck Avenue, one block from the downtown Berkeley BART. We are open Mon - Sat 10-7, Sun 11-6 (winter hours differ).
