National Missing Persons Week will be Sunday 3 to Saturday 9 August 2008 to raise awareness about the significant number of young Australians reported missing.

While the reasons for going missing are many and varied, communication plays a vital role in preventing young people from going missing and may also assist in their location while they are a missing person.

A national advertising campaign supports National Missing Persons Week and includes:

Radio advertising and community service announcements (click to download)
- Community Service Announcement
- Alexis
- Barry Bissell
- Kyle Sandilands
- Andrew G
- Jonathan Coleman

Lost & Found: MyGeneration Sunday 3 August.

Tune in to the two hour ‘Lost and Found’ program hosted by Jonathan Coleman which will be dedicated to National Missing Persons Week and will feature interviews and all songs ‘missing’.

And check out the new website at www.missingpersons.gov.au which will be launched as part of National Missing Persons Week.

35,000 Australians are reported missing each year – one person every 15 minutes. 20,000 are under the age of 18.

While 98 per cent are located, there is a significant amount of missing persons that have been missing for longer than one year. The impact on families and friends is devastating.

The National Missing Persons Coordination Centre is part of the Australian Federal Police and works with State and Territory Police and community organisations to provide a nationally integrated approach to reduce the incidence and impact of missing persons in Australia and around the world.

The Centre works within the PLEASE policy principles of Prevention, Location, Education, Awareness, Support and Evaluation.

You do not have to wait 24 hours before reporting someone as missing.
