The Mississippi Sheiks were one of the most popular and successful string bands of the 1930's. Most of their members were part of the same family, the Chatmans, which included Charley Patton and Peter Chatman as members. They recorded under many different names: Walter Jacobs and the Carter Brothers; The Chatmon Brothers; The Mississippi Mud Steppers; The Mississippi Blacksnakes, as well as the better known Mississippi Sheiks. The name was adopted from an old film starring Rudolph Valentino called "The Sheiks". Their brother Bo's real name was Armenter, but he recorded under the name Bo Carter throughout his career. The Sheiks themselves were extremely sophisticated compared to similar groups, playing in various keys, utilizing complex chords, etc. They played for both black and white audiences. They played many styles of music, hokum, folk, dance music, waltzes, two-steps, black bottom, and of course country blues.
While playing for a white square dance in Itta Bena, Mississippi, they were discovered by local record dealer Ralph Lembo. Lembo arranged for their first OKeh recording session. In February 1930, the field recording unit of OKeh set up in Shreveport, Louisiana. Polk Brockman was the producer/manager, and was the overseer of the first session. Their biggest hits were "Sitting On Top of the World" and the legendary, "Stop and Listen Blues ..2", the title take from the railroad crossing warning: "Stop-Look-Listen," both written by Vinson and Carter. The majority of the Sheiks' recordings were made by Vinson (somtimes referred to as a cousin) on vocals and guitar, and Lonnie, apparently the only family member, along with Bo, who was capable of reading music.
Lonnie Chatmon died in the early 1940's. Walter Vinson was discovered during the first blues revival during the 1960's, made several recordings then died in 1975. Bo Carter too was found in the 1960's, he was extremely poor and blind.
Here's a video that was captured of me offering my bottleneck slide interpretation of an old blues song, Goin' T' Brownsville, on open mic night at Old Strokers in Everett, WA. It starts out with me briefly introducing my homemade "Nobro" resophonic guitar and explaining some of the various recycled garage sale junk that I used in it's construction. Enjoy!
The King Of Pop, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the “King of Pop” and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne died June 25 2009 3 months short of his 51st Birthday. He was 50.
In 1960 the group came to Milwaukee where the King Of Pop met the group "Step By Step", that''s when the King Of Pop found out that the lead singer for Step By Step Johnnie Gee were born 1 year and 1 month apart.
The King Of Pop was born August 29 1958, and Johnnie Gee was born September 29 1959. Just like the King Of Pop Johnnie Gee admired Jackie Wilson and James Brown for their musical moves and skills, the dedication song title is called "Mesmerized". This special dedication comes from the heart and soul of Johnnie Gee, and to symbolize the life long friendship the both of these legends shared through out their careers. Michael Jackson (The King Of Pop), and Johnnie Gee (The King Of Soul) will always have a spiritual connection and something in common in the music world. We will always love Michael, and will miss him dearly.. R.I.P to the King Of Pop!
What a fatal blow the music industry, our legend has passed on...R.I.P to my special brother!

DO you know whats on most girl's minds but they won't tell you or will they.
I am telling you this because it is the honest truth, look I should know, they say that it is all in the way you use it, not how big it is, well I got news for you all, that is pure lies.
I know from personal experience, I will tell you about a secret that mattie has made me promise to never ever tell anyone, but since he has not called me in three weeks after standing me up, I am going to break the promise and tell you how he went from having a tiny wang and in 4 months he is now about nine inches and get this, it is still getting bigger. He has been secretly taking grow pills from this site, copy and paste the address into your browser to see them. KSPOE.COM
I found out when I was at his house, three fridays ago, we were getting ready to go to the mall, so while he was in the shower, I went in his room, sneeked under his bed and found a box with pill bottles in it, there was like 9 full bottles and 4 empty ones, all ordered from KSPOE.COM I was laughing at first but then when he came in the room and caught me looking at them, he freaked out and made me sware to not ever tell anyone about them, especially girls from school or work that he has been dating for the past while, now that I think of it, he has been rather busy with all the popular girls around here, when just last year he was the shyest when it came to girls.
I just never put two and two together until he explained it all to me, I did see his prick and yes, it is huge, pronostar huge, the thickest and longest one I ever seen.
I know this sounds really shallow, but I am considering ordering 6 bottles from the website at KSPOE.COM for you know who.. he does not have a myspace account, so he is not gonna see this. They guarentee that the pills will work on any man, or they give you your money back, living proof that they do work on any guy, seeing is believing. KSPOE.COM

HE PULLED ME THROUGH THE HOLE! Please have a listen to my new song and learn how a fallen banjonist was saved from depravity and desperation through the loving grace of God - hear Dad Horse Ottn playing a kazoo which could break open heavens door !
The late jug master (1939-2005) plays some of the spookiest tones ever on the previously unreleased "Visiting Day." Recorded by the Jailhouse Jug Band, the tune is currently spotlighted on the Jug Bandolier player.
East Nashville House Party+LIVE MUSIC, 1-6pm, Sun. 2/4
Hi! There's a party at my house this coming Sunday afternoon. Live blues music will be provided by Robert Lighthouse, and this guy is great. He will have advance copies of his new CD available. Read on for more info. Please RSVP so I have some idea of how many people will be showing up.
Later Sunday evening between 8-10pm, Robert will also be playing live on my radio show, "Spoonful" on 91.1 WRVU here in Nashville . Tune in live or listen online by going to www.wrvu.org, and clicking on the "listen to WRVU!" link in the upper left.
Details:
I'M HAVING A PARTY!
(A big thanks to Leah Cannon for the fine artwork.)
YOU ARE INVITED!
The party takes place this Sunday, Feb. 4th between 1pm and 6pm.
LOCATION: (MAP) Steve’s House
1045 West Greenwood Ave.
Nashville, TN 37206
DIRECTIONS: Check the link to the map above. I’m on West Greenwood Ave, just off of Gallatin Road. West Greenwood is the first road South (going toward downtown) of the newish Walmart “Neighborhood Market” grocery store on Gallatin Road, just south of Douglas Ave. The best way to get there from 40/24/65 is to get on Ellington Parkway and go North to Douglas Ave. Make a right on Douglas and go to Gallatin Road. Make a right on Gallatin, and then take the next right which is West Greenwood. It’s the first house on the right once you turn on to West Greenwood from Gallatin. The house has a white fence in front. It is probably best to park in the street, although there’s some room to park in my yard too.
FOOD = Potluck (bring something, your own favorite recipe, chips, whatever)
DRINK = BYOB
It's not *really* a Super Bowl party, as it has nothing to do with football, other than happening on Super Bowl Sunday. You might call it a “pre Super Bowl party” because it ends just before the game coverage begins. Everyone will be able to get home or to one of their favorite local East Nashville establishments to watch the big game after the party.
There will be live blues music at the party, a great one-man-band guitar/harmonica player named Robert Lighthouse, from Sweden via Washington DC. He's really great. For more info, check the links at the bottom of this message. The music will probably start around 2pm.
It's a potluck “bring some food” party which could be anything, a dish, chips, etc. and drinks are BYOB. Some basic food and drinks (pop, bottled water) will be provided. The main goal is to have fun and help raise some funds via tips for the musician to help him get to his next gig, a blues festival in Charleston, SC the following weekend. I've wanted to have parties with live music for a long time now and hopefully this will be the first of many.
If you can come, you're welcome to bring someone and you're also welcome to invite any cool friends who might enjoy this. Kids are welcome too. Tell anyone they can RSVP to me at 724-413-3466 or e-mail me at mojo.spoonful@gmail.com. That way I will have some idea of the number of people who will be attending.
Thanks, and I hope to see you on Sunday!

More information from Robert’s record label (Right On Rhythm) and Manager (Wayne Kahn): Roberts first CD, Drive-Thru Love (ROR003) continues to be one of the strongest movers in the ROR catalogue.
Just Some of the Comments posted to Robert's CD Baby Page:
This CD is a great representation of Lighthouse's capabilities. He's best live, but because this CD has mostly live recordings, you get the best impression. This musician is first and foremost a guitar player, in my view. The tracks on this CD that show him off the best are the ones that have him proving what he learned from the old masters Reviewer: Pat Moseley
With Robert Lighthouse, listening once again becomes a wonderful experience, a rare thing these days. Perfect music. Not a note against the soul. There's nothing this cd can't do for you, but most importantly, it's friendly. And I'll bet all your favorite albums are your best friends. Reviewer: Liz Blood
Worthy of continuous play...
Robert blessed us with several appearances a few years ago in Easton, PA, including the role of lead guitarist with the Shrimp City Slim Band from Charleston, SC. Whether as an accompanist or a solo performer, he has got the chops. After sitting idle on my shelf for a while, I dusted this gem off and assure you, it's worthy of continuous play. He is as accomplished on the harp as he is on slide guitar, but it's his voice which will linger with you...haunting, sad, soulful and sincere. Hey Robert...come back for another visit! Reviewer: Chas
He da Man!
Saw Robert several times while working the door at the Full Moon Saloon in Baltimore back in the 90's. The guy has more soul and feel in his style than all the "blooz nazis" in this town! It just feels so natural when he does it. He's the REAL DEAL! Reviewer: Crusty
holy crap!
okay so I'm not a blues fan. . .but I am now, quite easily one of the greatest cds ever recorded. My mom gave this to me randomly and that will be the last time it changes hands cause I wouldn't trust it with anyone else. I would tell you about the music but its much better to let you experience it for yourself. Reviewer: Matthew Jurick
yeah!...
Seen the man in Charleston SC and wish he would get back south soon. I still love the only, hint, hint, cd he's put out and wish to enjoy him in the Asheville area soon. Robert, you got something to share so share it with folks outside the beltway and in the other belt...bible that is. come on down and get some southern hospitality. Reviewer: mark
Blues with a feeling - Top quality CD--I lost the first one and had to buy another. If you like acoustic blues, listen to Going to the River. I wish he would make a second CD! Reviewer: Duncan
Duncan You're Getting Your Wish!
Just spent most of Monday at Bill Wolf's studio putting the finishing touches on the long awaited 2nd full CD Deep Down In the Mud (ROR0013). Like the first it is live recording split between acoustic and band formats. The acoustic material is culled from performances at Chief Ike's Mambo Room and the band material from The Zoo Bar. This CD will have a few original cuts and cover some ground that the first one didn't get to (Muddy, & Jimi) along with his love of Dr Ross/Robert Johnson/Elmore James. It also gives a much stronger picture of what Robert's band shows deliver.
I do not have an official availability date for it yet but I have posted it to the website http://www.rightonrhythm.com/ror/sites/store/cd-detail.php3?cd=241
Special Offer for Advance Orders!
Anyone placing an advance order for the new CD will receive a special limited edition single song CD of the title cut that has been sent around to radio.
