Honor Roll (HNRL) spitter Josie Stingray is back with her new single, progressive certified party banger, “ Josie”. Produced by resident HNRL breezy beat banger, Trackademicks, “Josie” evokes a celebratory vibe, through Track’s party breaks and signature synths. The song features triple threat "freshman of the HNRL", 1-O.A.K., singing an energetic hook, reminiscent of the feel good blue-eyed soul of the 70s. Also enlisted is chief HNRL sound-selector DJ Tap.10, dropping the cuts and scratches. Stingray brings what she does best, spicing the song up with charismatic wordplay like " I bellow notes at fellows, like Ella Fitzgerald in a yellow ass ‘Maro". This out-of-the-box offering is a key indication of what’s to come from Josie Stingray when she drops her project in 2011.
Ahead of the curve, with skill and wordplay, Josie Stingray transcends the common confines of gender that many women have been relegated to in today’s estrogen-deficient hip-hop music landscape. A while back, she splashed the “internets” with a sensational “Bay-more Club” style track called “Doing My Thing (featuring Jack Davey of J*Davey. Produced by 1-O.A.K., the song made UK tastemaker Giles Peterson’s Best of 2007 (BBC Radio1/Worldwide). She also collaborated with UK producer HINT on his lastest TruThoughts Recording release, “ Give It Up” a funky 80s disco inspired song that debut in the Top 5 in the Junodownload UK/Funky/Garage & Broken Beat chart. Josie Stingray, self proclaimed sneaker head, was also recruited by Lessondary homie Von Pea for “ New Pair” off his debut album “ Peas Gotta Have it”, also featuring 9th Wonder’s artist Rapsody in 2010.
