Interests

  • General

cinema, dancing, deep disco house, gonzo ethnomusicology, 23, teaching/corrupting young minds in order to save them, sushi, hysteria, magick + TM + ancient Californian wisdom, my living relationship to Jah, comic books, head, cats and the sacraments of Bast (dawn, civilization, home, bounty, plenty, enlightenment, art, music, dance, creation, birth, fertility, sex, physical pleasure, lesbians, truth, hemp, marijuana, drugs, the moon, and the rising sun), Lacanian heuristics/sadism, Bennett, catamites, trannies and other pied pipers at the gates of gender binarism, bloated metaphors, glorious messes, lost causes, three-hankie weepies, over-writing, Variety-speak ("Sticks Nix Hick Pix", "Dakota Fanning starrer wows auds in nabes," etc.), road trips, slumber parties, conspiracy theories, thongs, dime novel wisdom, dime bags, the OED, Del Taco, kickin' it at the Clown Room, the New York-L.A. rivalry, T'n'A, G'n'T, Illuminati-style true globalization and the crumbling of nation-states, immanentizing the eschaton.
  • Music

    Eat, sleep, shit, techno.

Keywords: failed revolutions, utopias (race/class/gender), sociology, bass slapping, death of rock and roll, last night a DJ saved my life, hormones, beats international, situationism, skronk, scratch, glitch, jack, cash from chaos, never trust a hippy (unless they're German), that Bryan Ferry - he's so dreamy!, 24 hour party people, and so on.

I think my favorite radio single of all time is "Help Me" by Joni Mitchell. McKay and I listened to it on repeat for an hour and a half one morning. While not exactly Top 40 material, see also Leonard Cohen "Famous Blue Raincoat" and Scott Walker "Duchess"

I don't listen to the things I like ironically - that's a big waste of time, yeah? So when I say I love Dr. Hook, I mean it.

Listen without prejudice. John Cage said that to really have any appreciation of music, you must first lose any idea of taste. I think I do quite well, under the circumstances.

Tee hee! I like everything except country and rap LOL heee! (Uh, wait, that's actually true if you mean young country and gangsta rap.) And as a corollary: no, I don't have to respect his rhymes... While I'm being a total cunt, I also despise emo, screamo, hardcore (punk, not techno), post-hardcore (Rites of Spring had their moments, but that's about all I can say), reggaeton, dancehall, and all of these quaint/precious/nasal acts like the Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, etc, who at the very least, comprise a genre by dint of annoying me in the very same way.

Not everyone understands house music. It's a spiritual thing.
