I've been playing guitar for 30+ years and have a wide array of musical interests. As a girl I was in love with the Stones from the word GO. I swiped my older sister's "Through the Past Darkly" LP and wore the grooves off it. With his jet-black eyeliner and pirate persona, I thought Keith Richards was the coolest cat I'd ever seen---and wanted to play just like him. But when I started playing guitar, they wouldn't teach me to ROCK, so I became an acoustic finger picker first. Although I love that music and was very influenced by Nancy Wilson of HEART as a teenager, I always wanted to play rock and blues. I have played in bands off and on since I was a teenager, but I did not "get any satisfaction" playing in bands until I finished graduate school. Maybe it was being a bit older and past all the weird crap I experienced before that made coming back to the guitar like seeing my best old friend after a few years apart. I picked the guitar up again and have never put it down since. And even though I LOVE the blues (I'm hooked on the "Bluesville" station on XM radio...), I am finding that classic, hard rock is feeding my soul in ways I never imagined. Perhaps that frustrated, confidence lacking teenager who wanted to trade her acoustic for a LES PAUL has finally hit her stride!!! If you think you're too old to rock, then you're too old period.Speaking of classic, hard rock, I'm in a great band called "The CoverGrrlz!" This is a band full of ladies that ROCK HARD. Each day I am amazed by the high level of professionality and musicianship in this band. And it's FUN! We have just added a new drummer, and 2008 is looking to be a GREAT year for the CoverGrrlz!

I play Gibson SG guitars, and I have a 1979 SG, and two 61 re-issue SGs, one of which is my road warrior I call "Red", and the other is a very hot SG I call "El Diablo". It's funny, the exact same guitar with the exact same components and they are soooo different. Kinda like men....but I digress... I also have a mess of acoustics: Adamas 6-string acoustic, vintage 1974 Washburn acoustic, Liberty Copperhead Resonator guitar, Alvarez 12-string, mandolin, and an ancient but sweet sounding violin.
I play my electrics through a Mesa Boogie Single Rectofier Rect-o-verb amp that I’ve named “Big Mo” (yes, I name all my equipment) ---not only because of the heavy sound---but also because it’s HEAVY! It’s a good thing Miss Trixie lifts weights! Just call me a steel magnolia! Anyhoo, my other amp is a Marshall DSL401 amp, which sounds especially nice with the Gibsons. In my book, you just can't beat the Gibson/Marshall sound. I use an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer to pump up the sound and am still exploring using more effects. Important for a cover band! Gotta get the right sound!
