Miss Little is a mash of singer/composer Sarah McCallum’s Pop, Rock, Jazz, Country, Blues, Classical and Electronic influences into a song setting. Originally from New Zealand Sarah released her first “Miss Little” E.P in 2006 and is currently gearing up to release the first full length Miss Little album. The album was recorded at Free Energy Device studios in Camperdown by local underground engineer/producer Richard Belkner who is known for his work with Bertie Blackman, Pivot, Triosk, Mr Percival and countless local jazz and rock bands. Sarah has made a name for herself in New Zealand as a choral composer. She gained ATCL in oboe at the very young age of 15 and also topped the country in both school certificate and Bursary music (HSC Equivalent). She has received many awards including two Douglas Lilburn composition awards and three AMES awards for excellence in music. Her piece “The Moon’s Glow Once Lit” featured on the 2006 Voices NZ CD, which won best classical album at the NZ music awards. In 2007 Sarah received a silver medal at the New York advertising awards for the music she composed for the Allblacks “Black Blood” campaign. After finishing her composing and electro-acoustic degree from Auckland University, Sarah felt it time to move country and made a home in Sydney. In Sydney Sarah works as an arranger and has provided strings and brass for The Andy Walton Band, Johanna Cranitch and Uncle Jed. Sarah has been gearing up to start a run of Miss Little shows with a new line-up. Recruiting local saxophonist Matt Keegan, and incredible drummer Evan Mannell ( Alcohotlicks, Tina Hrrod, Bertie Blackman, Beirut) the trio present a new- take on the usual pop/rock performance by using non traditional orchestrations. Miss Little will be releasing the first single off the album very soon!
