TARTE
is the sophomore album from singer/songwriter/Instrument-obsessed Majandra.
A silvery blend of moody melodies and syrup-like pop - all with a dollop of
old-fashioned goodness. Expect a lighter evolution from freshman album The Sicks
but even still, TARTE serves up the dark stuff - only better than before. 11

Once
upon a time, in a jungle known to many as Venezuela, a fair-haired minx was
born. Weighing in at 10 lbs and then some, this tartlet was intent to survive
regardless of the seemingly endless obstacles - persistent parasites, pesky
piranhas, petulant parentals to name just a few...
One
day she paddled out, eye on the closest shore, enduring shark chases, eel arm-wrestles,
and seahorse stings. Thriving on the aquatic way of being, the Tartlet found
herself stepping safely onto the warm sands of a land named Chequescha. There
she grew to be an avid hair brusher, songstress and all around mermaid. But
her melodies and rasp brought her to another kind of place, where the waters
are bitter and the motions sadistic.
Never
to be bothered, our Tartlet grew legs for the stillness of concrete and walked
along bravely reciting science fiction dialogue with one eye on the piano. It
was in the confines of her 1920's drafty dwelling where she secretly sung, brushed
her hair and poured gallons of salt in the tub...
Curious
as a cassette with a thing called "record" the mermaid-child-forced-adult
pressed the red button and gave you everything she ever had to call her own.
