Collecting girls on 45 and occasionally playing them in public, mid-century modern design, googie architecture, playing old fashioned board games, talking (usually too much), laughing (never enough), watching bands (I'm the one at the front yelling yoohoo 'cause I still can't whistle properly), dancing and playing the airguitar.
Music
50's and 60's garage, beat, rhythm'n'blues, northern soul, rockabilly, swing etc etc. But especially Girl Girls Girls! On vinyl please!! Some of my favourite girls at the moment are DeeDee Sharp, Terri Sharp, Velvelettes, Orlons, Jackie deShannon, Kathy Lynn & the Playboys, K-C-Ettes, Alma Cogan, Tracey Dey, Shirley Ellis, Billie Davis, Headcotees, Del-Monas, Christine Pilzer, Sylvie Vartan, Jacqueline Taieb, Bonnie St. Claire, the Girls, Jane Hillery, Crystals, Lulu, Dana Gillespie, Flirtations, Tabby Calvin, Shangri-las, Janis Martin, Kathy Zee, Merrilee & the Turnabouts, 2 of Clubs, Dooley Sisters, Miller Sisters, Lesley Gore, Brenda Lee, Liz Brady, Brenda Lee, Exciters, Adrienne Poster, Sheppard Sisters, Delicates and Kendall Sisters.
Movies
Everything by Tim Burton, Coen Brothers, Tarantino, Frank Tashlin (Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter!), Hitchcock, Ed Wood, sf, horror- and zombieclassics and other good oldfashioned movies that make me go to sleep with a big smile on my face. No boring arty-farty arthouse stuff by directors who take themselves far too seriously!
Television
Mostly BBC comedies like Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Room 101, Shooting Stars, Kumars. And British Whodunits (also quite funny). And praise the lord for inventing VCR and DVD so I can watch old episodes of The Avengers, Batman, Man from UNCLE and Thunderbirds again and again (and probably again)!
Books
I'm a bookaholic, I can't pass a bookstore without buying something. Mostly books about popculture design, architecture and collectables stacked with pictures that make your mouth water. I love everything by Jim Heimann and Alan Hess. Lots of whodunits and funny roaring twenties stuff (Evelyn Waugh, P.G. Wodehouse).
Heroes
In surreal life: Emma Peel, Lady Penelope and Miss Moneypenny (ofcourse!)
In Architecture: John Lautner, Bruce Goff, Eero Saarinen, Bond-designer Ken Adam and numerous lesser known mid century modern architects.
Final gig at Yah Yah's, kiss The Shimmys good-bye. For a piece of
us, don't forget The Shimmys new album "Brunettes on the rocks" is
available at 'Off the Hip' (www.offthehip.com.au) or buy a copy at the
show.
There is going to be a Big Beat Rave Up night in London town on Friday 18th December, featuring the combined talents of two of the GREATEST Beat Groups ever, The Kaisers and The Rapiers, in one SUPERGROUP!! - Ladies and Gentlemen: The Ravemen!
Discs will be spun by Liam Watson, Ben Olins and Dave Edwards. There's going to be a 'Twist Competition' too!
The fantastic Groninger garage-surf band The Monroes are throwing a CD-release party and will be playing at the Exit in Rotterdam on Saturday October 10th. The Dorktones are asked to warm the crowd that very night.
Since the theme of the evening is CD-release and the Dorks are working around the clock to get the brand new POP Go The Dorktones out, we thought we'd shoehorn our own little CD-pre-relase into the party.
So please come on over to the Exit on the 10th and party with the Dorks, Monroes and the Wild Wild Wild DJ's. Party starts at 21:00. Entrance is only €5,-.
I'm prefectly swell, but the Beat Mädchen are doing decidedly less well. They've been accused of multiple copyright infringements and MySapce *might* axe them. If so I will just open a new page. MySpace's control is only a software, so if I remove all tages from the files I should be fine. It is work though ;-(
I received some groovy DVDs recently Michael Sarne's "Joanna", "Darling" with Julie Christie and "Wonderwall" with Jane Birkin. If you fancy a copy of any of those let me know! Hope everything fine with you?
