Family tradition in that her father, Cabot Paul, has been one of Jamaica’s most sought-after, appreciated, applauded and respected one-man steel pan performers for over 30 years. Ever since he settled on the island’s alluring North Coast resort capital of Montego Bay, after emigrating from sister island, Trinidad And Tobago, during the late Sixties. Tianna grew up around her famous Dad, in the fashionable Montego Bay suburb of Reading, learning all about showmanship and the art of it all – but with her own creative eye on the day she herself would enter the field. Albeit from a completely different angle. “I watched Dad’s every move,” Tianna says proudly. “I knew I had to do things differently, though. He has been almost an all-round musician, playing several instruments. I am not, in the real sense of the word. I sing, too. So, broadly, I guess you can call me an ‘entertainer.’ Growing up, I always felt I had the talent, somewhere along the line.” That talent is what raven-haired beauty, Tianna, 26, is now ready to thrust upon the world of showmanship. Recently featured in Brixton England performing for countless literary giants. However being courted by many of the top literary agents isn’t a new for Ms. Cohen-Paul. When asked why have you not published as of yet she humbly stated “ I have seen others demise I merely want the sole rights for both my intellectual and mechanical property. “ The Integrity of my work will not be manipulated to the suit of others, I write for myself and perform for those of whom can be aided transcending my sheer words into actions.” Essentailly these words aren’t mine there from God hence I guard them with reverence for the people they were was created for”.. She plans a series of performances in South Florida, Europe and Washington DC during the remainder of the fall and through the winter – and is scheduled for concerts afterwards, in her hometown of Montego Bay, and on the Mona, Kingston, campus of the University Of The West Indies. Tianna has a degree in Liberal Studies, from Georgetown University, and got her early education at prestigious Westwood High School for girls near Stewart Town, Trelawny. She migrated to Florida in 1998, and today proudly describes her art as “a theatrical display of poems – acting out your poetry, all audio graphical, if you will”. She has been writing poetry since 1993, and has finished between 30 and 40 pieces amazingly memorized. “It is thrilling and gratifying to be able to live and entertain through poetry, singing and songwriting” says extroverted, effervescent Tianna. “It gives you an uplifting opportunity to self express from a different angle, platform, plateau, and echelon. It is so very inwardly rewarding and refreshing – and I love it!” Tianna Cohen-Paul considers being given the opportunity to entertain in this way “one of the big thrills of my life” – and she says she owes it all to her father. “I appreciated him all the way – from as far back as I can remember,” winsome, gregarious Tianna reminisces happily. “Back in those early days, I was transfixed in awe to see Dad turn something as simple as a regular, ordinary steel pan into an instrument so divine. I was thrilled then, as a child. Now, I am even more thrilled, grateful, thankful, pleased and proud of my Dad, the steel pan man!
