From the beginning Miss T-Bones had a different name, “Chick and the Hawks”, and yes, it was from the Big Joe Turner song. The band originally started out the year of 2006 (or was it 2005?) as a rhythm n blues band on the initiative of Lasse Jonsson, the famous rockabilly drummer in Enviken. Enviken, the rockabilly heart of Sweden.
Since Enviken have had a rockabilly culture a very long time and one of the biggest rockabilly record labels in Sweden, Enviken Records, it wasn’t too hard to pick up a guitar player from the street (Enviken is only one crossroad you know) that wanted to try something new. His name was Ulf Back or Uffe if you like. He had been through it all so he wanted no bullshit band. He wanted to get serious. That’s why they chose one of the best high octane bass players they knew, Peter Fröbom from Karlsbyn.
Karlsbyn is just a stone's throw away from Enviken and therefore Peter always rode his car over to Enviken for a chat with Patrik Staffansson, the manager of Enviken Records. You see, Peter doesn’t like to have an ordinary day job, he only wants to play great music. On his stand-up bass. And the best place to find out what’s going on in the music world and what live stages to play at in Sweden is at Patriks office. At least if you want to play real music. So Lasse and Uffe started to make some plans together with Peter of how to put together a new band. Peter came up with the brilliant idea of bringing a girl into the band that could sing with great feeling and passion. And of course that would make the band look a little better they thought.
So he called Annsofie Lindström up, it was an easy call since he had been playing a lot of bluegrass with her for at least five years already. As soon as Chick and the Hawks started to play, Uffe and his song writer friend Anders Vestlund started to write some brand new songs. So new that the old rhythm n blues that Lasse wanted to play also turned into a little blues…and country…and rock n roll…and rockabilly…but still new. So Lasse gave the band his blessing, left the band to its destiny and just like that a new drummer boy Johan Grandin took over the drum sticks.
At that time almost half the record “Voodoo Doll” was already recorded and the songs fitted Annsofies voice like a hand in a glove. So Patrik and the band kept on their good work in Enviken Studios recording the rest of the new songs, now with the new drummer boy Johan. Even though he looked a little heavy metal he did fit in the band cause nobody plays the drums like Johan. The name Chick and the Hawks didn’t feel right anymore when Lasse had taken his soul and guarding hand away from the band. Everybody wanted a new name with a little blues touch to it and still that the sound of the name would give a hint that the band had a female vocalist. So when a guy at Uffes daily job came up with the name “Miss T-Bones” it all fell in place.
Miss T-Bones only made one perfect record and that is Voodoo Doll, released in 2007. These days Miss T-Bones play on request only. So if you ask nicely, Miss T-Bones might give you a night that you’ll never forget.
