MISS TRESS BANNER
Miss Tress, also known as Tress, was born in South Korea, and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in a home filled with theatre and music. Tress started playing the keyboard when she was 4 years old, and ever since she began to speak, she was singing. Her father influences the 'rock' style in her music, and her mother influences the 'hip hop' side. Both genres, being known for the 'in-your-face' attitude, gave Miss Tress her start in rapping when she turned fifteen.
"High school is what did it for me," says Tress.
She disliked school, although very good academically, socially, she was not accepted.
"I probably went to six different schools in my high school career. I didn't hang out with the cool kids. Instead, I wrote about how I felt, I studied, and I performed."
Miss Tress grew up in a broken home, and has horrifying memories as a child. After running away from one home after another, she finally seeked peace in music, and began living on her own at sixteen.
Miss Tress met local rap artists, at the time, called 'Tha Wreckin' Crew' in 2003. These three M.C.'s: Tha Menace, Krow, and Jester Jest, introduced her to many different local cliques. One of which, Oddballer Records, signed her later that year. She then began her journey as a singer and rapper under the name of Doctress. Her time with Oddballer Records was short-lived, and after adopting the new name "Miss Tress", in 2004, Tress, and a few others, left Oddballer. The new crew then formed Cold North Royalty Entertainment.
Cold North Royalty consisted of a few local rappers, hungry for change. CNR was where she met her current rap partner, ill e. gal.
"I remember hearing her name for the first time, and hearing she was from Rhode Island... I thought we would hate each other, and I thought she would be some fake, two-faced bitch," Tress remembers.
Turns out, the girls got along like long-lost sisters, and immediately began working on music. Soon after, the fan favorite 'Royalty Girls' was released. Miss Tress then helped her new friend by performing along her side as a hype-girl. Tress also helped introduce ill e. gal to her good friends at Loonatix Productions.
Tress says, "I will never forget the day when Phatty McGee handed me a Lyrical Pedestrianz and Psychosynthetik flyer outside of the Quest. This was before I even met Tha Wreckin' Crew... like 2001. I saw the flyer, and I drove to K-town the next day for no reason, other than to see the show... and we've all been friends ever since... If it wasn't for those guys, I'd be completely lost.. not just musically, but mentally."
After years of inspiration from Loonatix, and finding a suitable rap partner, Tress had big dreams. And, after a late-night Loonatix show, ill e. gal and Miss Tress decided to join forces, and True High Class was born in March 2006.
Since then, the girls came out with many crowd-pleasing songs, such as: 'Aw Shit', 'Wasted', and 'So High'. The girls have performed all over Minnesota, and many shows out-of-state. T.H.C., now Twin Cities First Ladies, 2 years in a row, released their debut album in September of 2007. They opened shows for Tech N9ne and have gone to many of the Gathering of the Juggalos Festivals. The girls have recently gone their separate ways to pursue solo careers. Miss Tress plans on doing many new projects - production, recording, and multiple side-groups, and of course her solo debut.
Until then Miss Tress is still growing as an artist and a person...
