Interests

  • General

Writing, vocal mangling, reviewing gigs (want me to write for you? Just ask!), kazoos, beards, real ale, cooking, all things Japanese, 1920s and fetish clothing, tattoos, dancing like I'm on fire, gigs, stuff to do with cats, eyeliner, candlewax, sleeping, tomfoolery, TV parties, drunken Mortal Kombat tournaments, shenanigans, seafood, chicken, Sims 2, playing bass/guitar very badly, air-drumming, Fruit Allsorts, Haribo Starmix, mischief and metal.
  • Music

Doom, drone, death, grind, ambient, basically anything that's very loud, very heavy and very interesting. If you're a 'core' band with a stupid haircut and tight jeans, don't even bother reading any further.
  • Movies

Anything that's likely to give me nausea or nightmares, or features hicks - don't ask me why but I love redneck films.
  • Television

I'm Alan Partridge, Green Wing, The League Of Gentlemen, Summer Heights High, Kath & Kim, Bottom, Bill Bailey, Alan Davies, Ross Noble, Seinfeld, Eddie Izzard, Ren & Stimpy, Human Remains, The Day Today, anything slightly sick and darkly funny.
Real life - any street crime shows, A Life Of Grime, anything involving Louis Theroux or Donal McIntyre. And for some odd reason I'm deeply interested in football hooliganism - don't ask me why, but I love shows like 'Real Football Factories' and those undercover secret-camera ones that infiltrate hooligan groups.
  • Books

    Super-gory horror, thrillers, and erotica.

Rudyard Kipling's original Jungle Book series
The Kitchen God's Wife - Amy Tan
    Trainspotting - Irvine Welsh
  • Heroes

Janis Joplin, Otep Shamaya, Agnete M. Kirkevaag, Tairrie B, Karen Stever, Kyo, Davey Havok, Mike Patton and James Hetfield - all amazing vocalists, lyricists & frontpersons.

Louis Theroux because he's fearless, ultra-intelligent and frankly looks awesome in glasses.

Dr Statham from Green Wing because he is pure genius, and Alan Partridge for his concrete balls and saying whatever the hell he wants.

About me:

I am Dani and I provide vocals and catharsis for ISHMAEL, a Plymouth-based doom/sludge band.

Very nearly born in a North London pub, I shot out blue, slimy and screaming from the warmth of the womb. 20-odd years of charging through life like a bull in a china shop later, I've done some pretty cool things with it, but still have no plans any more long-term than the next weekend.

Music is my passionate first love, and as well as being a band conspirator I'm an aspiring extreme music columnist, so if you need a writer please contact me!!!

Who I'd like to meet:

You'll do.

But no hip-hop acts, spammers or Suicide Girls. I hate urban music, I don't want to listen to your shitty garage band and I don't particularly want to see your over-pierced mug pouting at me while you burst out of a fake blood-drenched latex corset.

thank you :). same to you! hehe.. greetz from the fuckin hot germany xD
  • Aug 18 2009 2:55 PM

That's the best way to go I reckon - stick to your guns and the right fans will gravitate towards you.

I do like Metalcore bands, but I don't want every other band to be one. Like you said, it gets boring and they end up splitting up after a year cos they haven't 'made it'.

We'd love to play at the Asylum. I've heard good stuff about it, and I think our manager knows some contacts there. We'll have to compare notes!
  • Aug 13 2009 11:56 PM

hey thanks for the add, you guys were awesome last night hope to do it again somtime!
  • Aug 13 2009 12:47 PM

The band cycles always make me laugh. A few years back there were metalcore bands everywhere - now they've all split up and fucked off! Typical!

Sounds like we should book ourselves some gigs down your way if there's an audience for us. We'll probably wait til the album comes out though.

It's our first appearance at Fest Fatale, so we don't really know what the vibe is gonna be like, but we'll still put on an ace show. Where are you playing in Birmingham? Hitting the road is awesome!
  • Aug 12 2009 9:23 AM

It's good that more diverse acts are spreading out a bit round the country. Up in Manchester you're spoiled for choice with metal bands!

I think that when our album is released we'll probably head for the south-west to play some shows. Let's just hope they like us down there, ha ha!

Will it be the first show for your band in Derby?
  • Aug 11 2009 2:29 PM

Ace! Haven't heard them in a while, so will be interesting to see/hear how they're doing.

Is Plymouth any good for gigs? I've only ever been to Plymouth Pavillions for big shows.
  • Aug 11 2009 12:01 PM

Hey Cheers for hooking up with us!
  • Aug 11 2009 9:23 AM

Cheers for the comment! Yeah, Fest Fatale is gonna be awesome! Will be good to see you there.

I noticed that you're friends with Misericordia - we used to go to uni with Nick and Teri. Say hi to them from us!

    Cheers
